40,000 Avios sign-up bonus on the BA Premium Plus Amex card ends on Wednesday

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The current bonus of 40,000 Avios points for signing up for the British Airways Premium Plus American Express card ends on 1st August.  This is a fantastic offer, substantially more than the usual bonus of 18,000 Avios.  If you have been thinking about getting the card then now is definitely the time.

This is the sign-up link.  This link has been advertised on the ba.com home page (as a banner ad) for some weeks and does not seem to be targetted.  I see it, for instance, and I wouldn’t if it was targetted as a) I already have the card and b) BA thinks I live in Germany!

You still need to pay the £150 annual fee but for 40,000 Avios it is still a good deal.  You need to spend £3,000 on the card within 3 months to trigger the bonus, which some people report is posting as 18,000 Avios as soon as you hit £3,000 with the balance posting later.

Note that Amex states in other ads for the BA Premium Plus American Express card that a £30,000 household income is required.

Agree a very good deal, Raffles – a few other thoughts re. this…
    – Given the £3k spend and earning rates you’ll end up with a minimum of 44,500 Avios, more if any of the spend is on BA (where you earn 3 Avios per GBP). Which is nice 🙂
    – You can cancel once your bonus points have posted and get a pro-rata refund of the £150 fee (although if you’re going for the companion voucher you obviously can’t do this!)
    – There’s only a couple of weeks left but the Amex/Foursquare offer is still on so sign up for a new 4sq account, sync the card and you’ve got potentially another £80 of discounts available
    – If you get the ‘we can’t give you a decision now’ message when signing up then give them a call – if you’re an existing Amex cardholder they seem to push things through within a day or so.

Hi Alan, ive signed up to a four square account and tried to look on AMex and foursquare for syncing re above but cant find anything. What do i need to do here?

  • Dominic says:

I currently have a BAPP card, with my wife as a secondary cardholder. We have conveniently just hit the £10k on my account. Do you know if she can now apply for one in her own name with me as a secondary account holder (obviously with a new £150 charge) and get thus 40,000 bonus points and then a second 241 voucher?

    • Alan says:

Sorry, see the second part of my reply to Phil – I didn’t realise this would be threaded! 😀
