Hilton HHonors has launched a 4th quarter promotion in association with Virgin Atlantic.

(At this time, it seems that similar promotions will be launched with Miles & More and Emirates, albeit with a later starting date. I will post more information when these promotions are launched.)

Virgin Atlantic 747

Here is the link for the Virgin Flying Club deal. It is a very simple promotion, running from 26th September to 31st December. Pre-registration is required.

  • On your first stay, earn 1,000 Virgin miles
  • On your second stay, earn 2,000 Virgin miles
  • On your third stay, earn 3,000 Virgin miles
  • On your fourth stay, earn 4,000 Virgin miles
  • On your fifth stay, earn 5,000 Virgin miles
  • Stays 6+ only earn standard miles

These miles are on top of the usual miles, which for the major Hilton brands are 1,000 per stay.

To qualify, you need to set your Hilton HHonors profile to either ‘Points + Fixed Miles’ or ‘Points + Variable Miles’ (it doesn’t matter which) and select Virgin Atlantic as your airline partner. The miles will transfer automatically after your stay.

If you already collect Flying Club miles, this is a decent deal. If you don’t, then this is not really a good reason to start, since 15,000 (20,000 if you include the base miles) doesn’t get you very far. (12,500 gets you a £50 voucher for Virgin Wines or some other Virgin companies.)

Although, if you tie this in with the 20,000 VS miles offered with their credit card at the moment, you would have a one way in Upper Class to New York.

However, there is a twist. As I posted here, you can convert Virgin miles to Hilton HHonors points. You need to transfer 10,000 at once (and then in multiples of 5,000) which gets you 20,000 Hilton Hhonors points. 5 stays would get you 20,000 Virgin miles, including the base miles of 1,000 per stay, which is 40,000 Hilton points. This is likely to be substantially more lucrative than selecting ‘Points + Points’ as your earnings choice.

Don’t forget the Avios route

Before rushing into this promotion, don’t forget the amazingly generous deal that BMI Diamond Club has with Hilton.

If you select ‘Points + Fixed Miles’ and select BMI as your airline partner, you earn 1,000 Avios (once you have converted your Diamond Club points to Avios) per night, up to a maximum of 3,000 Avios per stay. If your typical stay in 2-3 nights, and of course assuming you collect Avios, this option may be more attractive.

If your Hilton stays are generally 1-nighters, though, the Virgin promo will probably be better.

As I said at the start, I also expect other variants of this promotion to emerge, Emirates and Lufthansa are already known to be coming. More news soon.

5 stay should earn you 20k I believe.

You’re right. I though this bonus was instead of the usual miles, but it is on top of them. I have made a couple of edits to the text to reflect this.
