BAA WorldPoints is today launching its annual bonus promotion on electronics and jewellery, keen to tap into the Christmas rush! Official emails should be going out to members shortly.

Here are the details of the offer, which runs from today, November 5th, to December 30th:

15,000 extra points when you spend £2,500 or more at Bulgari, Omega, Mappin & Webb, or Watches of Switzerland

7,500 extra points when you spend £1250 – £2499.99 or more at Bulgari, Omega, Mappin & Webb, Watches of Switzerland or Dixons Travel

3,000 extra points when you spend £500 – £1249.99 or more at Links of London or Dixons Travel

750 extra points when you spend £125 – £499.99 at Links of London, Swarovski or Dixons Travel

I took advantage of this deal a couple of years ago when I bought my wife a watch at Watches of Switzerland. (They will order items in for you if you want, if you are willing to ring and pay a deposit a couple of weeks before you travel.)

I then sat on the points – probably about 20,000 in total, including the base points for the watch – and converted them to Avios when BA joined the WorldPoints programme last year. They were offering a 100% transfer bonus at the time, and I netted almost 50,000 miles if I remember correctly.  That is a serious rebate on the price paid for the watch.

Even 3,000 points on a £500+ spend at Dixons Travel looks very attractive if you were planning to buy an iPad for Christmas.

    I wonder if BAA shopping vouchers would count as £500 spent if I ask the shop to scan my card afterwards? I won a BAA shopping competition recently, I have £500 worth of vouchers to spend in any BAA airport shop (including STN until 31st Dec) and I was looking at buying an iPad in Dixons. Am I right in thinking that 3000 should be minimum 3,600 Avios, possibly more if I wait for a conversion bonus?

      Yes, 3000 is 3600 Avios, or 7200 if there is another 100% bonus promotion (there were two this year).

      Voucher – I cannot answer in your particular case. However … if you spend £75 in World Duty Free and use one of those £5 vouchers that are liberally available, you get points for the full £75 receipt value, not the £70 you actually paid. WP therefore seem to be awarded based on the gross transaction value.

      If for some reasons it did not go through at the full value, I would write to WP and retroclaim the proper amount – they have excellent customer services staff and would see you OK, I think.

      If you want a particular ipad model, use the Dixons Travel website to reserve the one you want.
