Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

The Avios ‘25% off’ sale is ON

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

The Avios ‘25% off’ sale is on and its working on avios.com, ba.com and iberia.com.  I have already made a booking to prove it!

But there is nothing on ba.com about it.  Nothing at all.  Only when you get to the payment page do you see the discount.  Nothing on avios.com either.  The avios.com/sale hasn’t been updated as at 08.15.

I haven’t had an email about the sale either!

Avios wing 5

As far as I can tell, it is working as per the rules:

  • Long-haul (Zone 4 and above) only
  • All fare classes taking part
  • One way bookings OK
  • Valid for travel that is completed by 31 May
  • BA redemptions only
  • 241 vouchers OK (couldn’t test this as not got a voucher at the moment)

except for the

  • All bookings must start in London

rule:

I have got it to price up one-way tickets TO London with no problems.

I have also got it to price up Manchester to XXXX with the discount, changing in Heathrow.

I also spotted this:

You CAN book a return flight where the return is after 31 May.  However, the discount is only applied to the outbound flight.

Also note that the long-haul rules only applies to bookings on ba.com and avios.com.  If you have an active Iberia Plus account and can transfer Avios into it (ie it has been open for 90 days and has earned 1 Avios), you can book Iberia short haul flights with the 25% discount.  Madrid to London return, for example, is 11,250 Avios and Euro 35 in Economy.  You cannot, though, book a BA short haul flight (eg London to Frankfurt) via Iberia Plus and get the discount.

If you want to book, jump in now before 5.7m Avios members get an email about the sale!

Please post any interesting anomalies you spot in the Comments.

I cancelled my previous booking and rebooked. A bit of scare as the miles were not credited back. A phone call to BAEC discovered a glitch so the guy on the phone solved the issue.

Curiously I didn’t save 25% but only 20% on an Iberia flight. Still, that’s a saving of 30,000 miles for me…

    Thanks.

  • xcalx says:

Just checked BA and the 25% is coming off from the regions eg MAN-LGW-MLE WT 18750 down from 25000 and LBA-BLR CW 37500 down from 50000

I was offered a stopover in Paris on the way to New York. Aha! A chance to reduce APD and enjoy a French dinner on the way out, using a >24 hour stopover and continuing on Openskies.

Curiously, the price went right up – from 80,000 Avios, reduced by 78,000 Avios making 158,000 Avios!.. The taxes and fees were lower, though.

LCY-JFK-LCY looked better at 80,000 minus 20,000 = 60,000 Avios plus taxes and fees, at the ex-UK rate of course.

  • Cliff says:

Email just received from BA.com about this promotion.

  • ComeFlyWithMe123 says:

Hey Raffles, I got a flyer in the Post and it states ‘With 25% off, one way flights start at 4688 avios pp + £50 pp (plus airline taxes blah blah)…

Have you any idea what routes would be close to this figure….I though the cheapest long haul would be 10,000 avios one way so after discount is 7,500??

    • David says:

It’s Zone 4 (Abuja, Cairo, Jeddah, Kuwait, Tel Aviv).

      4688 before 25% discount is 6,250.

The plus £50 bit suggests this is PCPM (part cash, part miles) – perhaps we should now call it PCPA (part cash, part Avios).

Assuming the maximum PCPM split is 50%, that puts the flight they are refering to at 12,500 Avios one-way.

      Which is Zone 4.

Think zone 3 (Moscow), at 10k one way is excluded.
