Flying Blue status match to be honoured?

I ran this post a couple of weeks ago about a status match for the Air France / KLM Flying Blue programme.

They were willing to match any other airline Gold card you had to their own Gold, which effectively got you Gold across the entire Skyteam alliance.

A couple of days later, the offer was withdrawn, shortly after they had changed the rules to limit it to Scandinavian residents only.

Flying Blue

And now, on Flyertalk, a poster received this note after posting on the Flying Blue Facebook wall:

We investigated the situation and acknowledge that due to a mistake from our side the campaign allowed members from outside Scandinavia to apply for a Flying Blue Gold status indeed. Therefore we decided to stop the campaign. All members that received approval for their status match request, however, will still receive their Flying Blue Gold card as promised.

We hope you will enjoy all the benefits!

Due to this mistake it could take 2-3 weeks before your status will be updated.

We thank you for your understanding.

Kind regards,
KLM Facebook team

You should believe it when you see it, of course, but it looks like this one might end happily.

How to earn Flying Blue miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Flying Blue miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Air France and KLM do not have a UK Flying Blue credit card.  However, you can earn Flying Blue miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Flying Blue miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Flying Blue mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

I contacted them via Facebook to note that my account still showed Ivory and received the following:

…our colleagues from the Flying Blue department are doing their utmost to update all status matches as soon as possible. You are able to create a booking already and once your Flying Blue account has been updated we can insert your Flying Blue number. We hope to see you onboard soon!”

So fingers crossed – I fly Rome to Edinburgh via AMS on KLM a few times a year to avoid O’Leary’s mob so this would be very nice 😉

As you say, “believe it when you see it” but it looks as if they may be sucking this one up, after all it is a “status match” rather than a complete freebie even if some people might be matching from a certain CX Gold!

I e-mailed them and they replied that I would be upgraded to gold on 1 April. This was after I updated my address to a Scandinavian one and it looks like the e-mail was from a Scandinavian or at least regional customer services department.
