Hyatt Gold Passport was alone amongst the big hotel chains in not running a major promotion so far this year.

They are now making up for it, with a chance to earn bonus Gold Passport points via ‘More Possibilities‘.

Registration is not yet open (it will be open from February 15th) but the headlines are:

  • Receive 3,000 bonus Hyatt points for every 3 nights, to a maximum of 45,000 bonus poinst
  • Register by April 30th
  • Stay between March 1st and May 31st

Holders of Hyatt credit cards receive an extra 20% bonus (3,600 per 3 nights) but as the card is not available in the UK it is a moot point!

It is certainly not a life changing deal.  1,000 Hyatt points are worth £10+.  If you staying at the budget Hyatt Place properties in the US this may seen a decent rebate, but doesn’t make much of an impact at the expensive Grand Hyatt, Park Hyatt and Hyatt Regency brands seen in Europe.

However, if you are planning your hotel strategy for the next couple of months, it is worth bearing in mind.

If you want to learn a bit more about Hyatt, Gold Passport and the better redemption options, take a look at this article.

just got my club carlson gold from amex, and made booking, should i set up auto conversion of points to ba avios or wait for a conversion bonues

    • General Mayhem says:

Interesting maths on this one. Usually as a carlson gold member, for every £100 you spend (net of taxes) you will get 4500 ($150 @30 points per $) points plus booking bonus of 2000 points = 6500 points. Let it build up to 100,000 points (spend £1538) and get 18000 avios points.

      ie 11.7 avios per £

Until mid march there is a triple points promotion so 70 points per $. So spend £100 and get 12500 points. Spend to reach 100,000 points is therefore approx £800. Which works out at 22.5 avios to the £.

But what are 100,000 CC gold points worth? It could mean two nights in a Central London or Paris hotel, which would otherwise cost about £250 per night.

So your spend of £1538 (usual) or £800 (during the 3x points promotion) could be “worth” £500. Which looks rather better value than 18000 avios.

      • Raffles says:

Agreed. The Carlson conversion rate to airline miles is OK but redeeming is a better deal. I’ve got a £100 room in Hamburg coming up which I got for 19,000 Carlson points.

The triple points promo is exceptionally generous. As you say, for a Gold member it is effectively 125 points per £1, and if you redeem ‘well’ (which I take as getting £5 per 1,000 points of value) then you are effectively getting 60% of your spend back!

(The reason I am using points in Hamburg instead of paying cash and getting triple points is that I needed flexibility to cancel, which would have meant booking an inflated room rate in the first place.)

  • Raffles says:

I actually have a post on Carlson lined up for tomorrow, by the way!

  • General Mayhem says:

Thank you Raffles. That will be interesting.

The cancellation point is a very good one. And one of the better features of Club Carlson, along with the 241 and 442 weekend rooms.
