250 Clubcard points (600 Avios) for £5 in-store with video game pre-orders

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Tesco has started offering bonus Clubcard points again in-store when you pre-order certain new video games.

This service is generally only available in Tesco Extra stores, although you may get lucky elsewhere.  In the video games area, you are looking for empty promotional boxes advertising games which are coming soon.

You take the box to the counter and pay £5.  You receive nothing for this, except a receipt which guarantees you a copy of that game on the day it is released, plus a £5 coupon to use with it.  You also receive 250 bonus Clubcard points immediately.

There are 8 games that seem to be currently available with this deal.  It is limited to one copy of each game per Clubcard.  You may even be able to buy the same game for different consoles (XBox 360, PS3 etc) and have that treated as a different purchase.

For clarity, there is NO requirement to actually go back and buy the game when it is eventually released.

250 Clubcard points is good for 600 Avios at the standard conversion rate, so not a bad deal for £5.  If there is another conversion bonus soon, you could an extra 30% – 40% on top.  Of course, it is not as good as the ‘500 points for a pre-order’ promotion which ran last year ….

So here’s my newbie question – can you use the £5 coupon to purchase something else like groceries? 🙂

    No!
