Aggressive Starwood hotel discounts via exclusive code

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Last week in Berlin was Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB), the biggest travel show in Europe with 110,000 visitors.

Starwood, the Westin / W / Sheraton / aloft etc hotel group, was running a special promotion linked to the show.  Details were only given to attendees, but there is no restriction on who can book these rates.

The link to the special ITB booking page is here.

Here are the key details for the promotion:

You need to book by March 17th for stays until June 30th

It is limited to hotels in certain countries – Austria, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Malta, Mauritius, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Seychelles, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine, UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai), UK

Rates are fully cancellable until the day of arrival – so you have nothing to lose by locking in a potential stay

The discounts are aggressive, to be honest, even if you compare these cancellable rates with advanced purchase rates.

Le Meridien Etoile in Paris, for example, falls from €268 to €140 for random nights I checked – although the website was imposing a 7 night stay for some reason, despite saying the minimum was 1 night.

Le Meridien Seychelles (which was not imposing a minimum stay) was €253 on this rate compared with €419 for the cheapest alternative.

Closer to home, a random night in London got me aloft at Excel for £80 compared with £139 for the cheapest (non cancellable) room.

The ‘happening’ W in Barcelona is also heavily discounted if you fancy a weekend break before the end of June.  7th-9th June weekend, for example, is €195 per night compared with a non-cancellable standard rate of €365 ….

Take a look and see what you can find.

  • Butler says:

Might there be any downside to using this code? It’s halving the price of a hotel I’ve already booked (but cancellable), so I’m tempted to save the 700 EUR. 🙂

  • Vince says:

    Thanks for sharing Raffles!
I suppose that all the stays booked with that special rate count towards the Power Up promotion, don’t they? (2,000 bonus Starpoints after every four eligible nights).

    • Rob says:

Not sure, to be honest, but Starwood in general does not behave like Priority Club, who are happy to refuse points if they think your rate was too low!

  • Gus says:

    Thanks Raffles.

Just booked the Westin Warsaw over the late May Bank Holiday for <£40/night. Cheaper than a Holiday Inn 🙂

  • Sarah O says:

That Barcelona offer is not available for the weekend, nor for much of the week before and after then (I know, because I need to travel at the same time!). It’s also limited to certain brands: in BCN, this is the Meridien and W only.

Good luck to anyone who can take advantage of this!

    • Rob says:

It is, or was yesterday, available on some weekends at the W, mainly towards the end of the offer period. You can see the availability calendar online.

  • trickster says:

Looking at the W in Barcelona (and the Le Meridien) for random dates in April, there are cancellation charges.

    Cancellation Policy
The time for canceling without penalty has passed. If you cancel, the forfeiture amount will be 100 percent. There may be additional applicable charges and taxes.

  • Greenpen says:

Thanks a lot for this. I’m off to Istaambul this weekend so booked the Meridien there at €70 plus tax per night; absolute bargain! Hotel in not near the tourist stuff but suits me perfectly.

  • pazza2000 says:

Great price for the W Barca, lowest I have seen infact via SPG. Although I do also see the same cancellation policy as trickster for some tentative weekend dates in June – so would proceed with caution.

  • hingeless says:

Thanks Raffles, I have just booked the Barcelona W for easter @ €155 per night + tax. This is the best price i have ever seen for this hotel. Hope i get an upgrade with SPG gold. Its a great hotel in a great location. The cocktail bar is a bit odd as all the seats around the windows face in rather than out and its on the top floor !!
