UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.

Marriott Bonvoy is offering 1,000 bonus points per night and double elite night credits on stays between 13th February and 29th April. Click here to read more and click here to register.

Starwood Preferred Guest is offering a 15%-25% discount when you purchase SPG Starpoints before 30th April.  The link to buy is here.

At the top end, 20,000 points will cost you $525. These can be converted in 25,000 airline miles in the majority of programmes. The price per mile works out at 1.4p, which is certainly not a bargain but less than a lot of airlines charge for buying their miles directly.

The rules are straightforward – points post within 24 hours, maximum purchase of 20,000 points per year, your SPG account must be 14 days old to participate.

The ‘sweet spot’ with Starwood was historically their ‘cash and points awards’ for mid-tier properties. As I repeated on Saturday, Starwood ‘cash and points’ deals have now been ‘enhanced’ and offer poorer value than they did, albeit that they are now available at a wider range of properties.

It can still make sense to buy ALL the points you need for a room, though. The Sheraton at Frankfurt Airport, for example, costs €194 on Tuesday 19th. Alternatively, you could book the same room on ‘cash and points’ for 5,000 points ($148) plus $75 – a total of €171. The reward night would also be cancellable, whilst the €194 room I quoted is not.

If you like staying at the Le Meridien Dead Sea in Israel this is a great offer. Mid week this hotel burns 3000 points a night and only 2000 at weekends. 20,000 thus buys a weeks stay for a couple at this resort hotel all for $525.

  • PGW says:

I always take advantage of these offers because it isn’t hard to find redemptions that turn the initial outlay into very good value. You can also transfer SPG points to another account fro free (takes a few days) so my better half and I both cash in.

If you aren’t interested in hotel redemptions, I think I’m right in saying that SPG is the only programme allowing UK based members to redeem to AAdvantage miles.

    • Rob says:

Its the only AA partner with a decent transfer rate, certainly. AA is not in Amex Membership Rewards and the Hilton and Priority Club transfer rates are pretty poor to airlines.

  • First2Board says:

Great deal – thanks for the heads up! We spend a LOT of nights in Starwood properties each year, so this makes a lot of good sense!
