The best places in the world to use your Club Carlson points

If you took part in Club Carlson’s crazy promotion last Summer, where you earned 44,000 bonus points for any stay in any of their properties, however cheap, you may be looking for good ways to use them.

Club Carlson is also one of the most attractive transfer options from American Express Membership Rewards with a 1:3 transfer ratio.  See my post on Membership Rewards to Club Carlson transfers here.

Over the last few weeks, US site Point Chaser has been running a series of posts on the best Club Carlson redemptions in each redemption category. If you have some Carlson points to use, it is well worth a look.

I was personally very impressed by the Radisson Blu at Hamburg Airport last month.  I also had a drink at the rooftop bar of the Radisson Blu in Cannes in September and found it a surprisingly funky property in a very nice beach front location.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

These articles touch on ‘payable’ tax on award nights. I never knew these existed on outright award nights – is that correct? Of course, cash & points are a different matter

Ignore that. Only India, I think, likes to levy tax on hotel award nights. The only tax you may ever pay on an award night may be a local flat-rate tourism tax, which would be $2 or so. After all, most tax is a % of the room rate, and your room rate is $0 ….

I am surprised (and not complaining) about the generosity of the CC recent promotion.

A recent 2 for 1 deal. Upgrade to a much better room. Feeling lazy so ate in the hotel restauarnt both nights (15% discount). Nearly 40,000 points in all.

    Bring on the next one!

I’m upset with Club Carlson at the moment, as they’ve downgraded me to Silver. I believe that Gold is an ongoing benefit of Amex Platinum, but I’ve recently been downgraded to Silver anyway. I’ve enjoyed my previous stays with CC, and would happily stay with them again if they sort out my status.
Amex show me as Gold, but my CC account page shows otherwise.

Try applying again via the link on the Amex Plat website and see what happens?
