Points balance tracking service AwardWallet launches a new super-fast Apple app

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Last September, I wrote a long piece outlining why I like AwardWallet.

As I wrote then:

Once you have got a certain number of loyalty accounts, it is very easy to lose track of what you have in each. This is especially true if you also control accounts for family members.

There are a number of programmes around to help you keep track of what you have, but the best by far is AwardWallet.  I have been a fully satisfied member myself for some time.

AwardWallet is easy to explain (there is even a video linked from the home page you can watch). It allows you to store the log-in and password details for pretty much all of the loyalty programmes you are in (American Airlines being the main exception.) It isn’t just travel, either – Nectar, Boots Advantage, Tesco Clubcard, Harrods Rewards …. they cover over 500 programmes from across the world.

You can store programmes for various different people inside one AwardWallet account. When I log in, I see 57 different accounts across my family. A clever part of AW is the ability to sideline schemes which are dormant or rarely used, so my ‘Active’ tab contains a more modest 35 accounts.

You can sit and back and do nothing with AwardWallet if that is how you want to play it. Once a week, AW will automatically log in to each of your programmes and update your balance. It will then send you a weekly email with all of your balance changes.”

The reason for this post is that AwardWallet has just launched a new iPad app.  And it is lightning fast.

The old iPad app had a huge problem – you could only update your balances one at a time, which was useless if you had 50 programmes stored.

The new iPad app now lets you check all your balance in one click, and it takes a fraction of the time of the desktop programme.

I just ran a test on the 48 programmes I store.  It took just 30 seconds to check 47 of the 48 balances, just hanging for a short while on the 48th.  The destop version is substantially slower, taking a couple of minutes (although it does run in the background if you are doing something else).

As I wrote in my original article, some people have security concerns over AwardWallet.  Frankly, I don’t.  If you can get happy with the security issue, it is a fantastic utility which is well worth trialling.  The basic product is free and you can ‘pay what you like’ to upgrade to the advanced version which tracks the expiry dates of your points.

Sounds great! Only downside, what am I going to do all day now?!

  • Tim81 says:

I assume you have found the app to be secure with all you passwords logged? You hear about Tesco accounts been hacked and just wanted to check you dont think this app jeopardises security. Thanks.

Security is my main concern too, otherwise I’d be all over it.

Arguably, AW is a defence against getting hacked. After all, if you check your balances daily via AW then you will see quickly if a balance has moved sharply.

With regards to the security issues mentioned above, I’ve never had an issue, and I’ve used the site and apps for quite some time. Regarding the security concerns, AW state on their website:

“With respect to security: We always use industry-standard encryption technologies when transferring and receiving customer’s data exchanged with our site. We have appropriate security measures in place in our physical facilities to protect against the loss, misuse or alteration of information that we have collected from you at our site.”

I still have 9 referral codes left if anyone needs one? No idea what it gets you. I don’t think I get anything as a result, but I think you would get 6 months free of Premium. But can only be used for new users… If anyone wants one – let me know. If anyone knows what the referral codes offer to either me, or someone who uses it – please also let me know. 🙂

      Hi JK,

      I’d like a referral please.

Don’t know how you can get it to me without either one of us posting an email address in the comments section though…

      • JK says:

Actually, I think there’s a way around it… Again, I don’t precisely understand all this, but try this link first:

        http://AwardWallet.com/?refCode=dfnbrjnxaq

And then, if it asks for an Upgrade Coupon, use: “free-stryll”

Good luck, let me know how you get on – and if you do indeed get anything free, like 6 months Premium!

        • World Traveller says:

A user is given 10 upgrade coupons (which give new users 6 monhs of Pro status) – so after 10 users have used the above links won’t get you a free upgrade anymore. When that happens try using this upgrade coupon: free-ztusjc
