  As already noted on the FlyerTalk CC forum, 2 things to note about the latest promos:

  1. According to the Ts&Cs, existing booking don’t qualify.
  2. Only EMEA properties are covered, and even here, there are many places not participating.

  Was about to say the same thing – lots of properties not included, and restricted to Europe, Middle East and Africa.

  Raffles, I’d be interested to hear a basis for your £5 per 1000 point valuation…..that’s greater than IHG Rewards. Many feel that even at a 1:1 ratio, trading between the two program’s would be a better deal in favour on the IHG rewards recipient.

  I’ve got 700k of the buggers which admittedly were acquired solely to convert to AA miles until they took an axe to the conversion rates. I’ll obviously have to look to somewhere which has a lack of booze at the 9k point level and relocate to utilise them.

    May Fair is a high end London 5-star for 50k which easily sells for £250 per night, Park Inn Rotherham is 9k per night and I can’t believe that goes for under £45. I admit you struggle a bit with some of the intermediate properties to get to that valuation. A really plush NYC property would be good.

    Wait for the new Maldives resorts to open for booking and jump on those!

      First of all, I thank you for your wonderful website. You always have so good ideas/thoughts.

      Having said that, I am positive that your valuation of CC points are way off. I will try to explain, but English is not my language….

      Anyway, you are forgetting the points you will earn booking for cach when you compare points vs cash.

      On a 250 pound booking you earn typically 9650 points (including 2000 points for gold card membership), lets say 10k points because you might be consignere… That is £50 of value, so your “true cost” for booking the hotel room is only £200 (if you dont agree with that, well then that is proof that your valuation is off).

      Same goes with low-end redemptions, a hotel for 9000 points is handicapped due to the “huge” online booking bonus of 2000/3000 points that you earn when you do cah buy.

      I have played alot with the numbers, and the fun thing is that very often the Money+Points potion is the best way to do a redemption? Why? Well, you do save money, and you do earn new valuable points! And it counts towards status stays…

      If you want, I can send you an excel document that I use when dererming what to book (money/points or money+points). You have my email adress, just send me a short yes and I will come back to you.

      My own valuation of CC points, taking the earning in consideration, is now (55-60 dollars per 10.000 points (it used to be the same 50 pounds that you have, before I did my calculations)…

        That’s all true – the generous Carlson earning rate does skew numbers a bit. That said, $6 per 1000 is not massively off my rate of £5 per 1000!

  As others have said, the EMEA restrictions are the killer on this offer … sadly.
