  All very well but Heathrow Express will only let you claim the 33% discount for having an annual rail season ticket / Gold card at the station or one of the mobile sellers at Heathrow.

    If you’re starting at Paddington, you can buy your railcard discounted HEX tickets at the National Rail (FGW) ticket machines.

    Also you can book at a rail site if you’re collecting a Paddington (useful if you’re collecting East Coast rewards).

    Reasons I hate HEX:

    1. They deliberately don’t offer railcard discounted fares through their own ticket machines.
    2. The ticket sellers deliberately placed to get to unsuspecting tourists before they can explore other options.
    3. Since they stopped sending the Heathrow Connect to T4 it now goes to T5 to turn round, but runs empty to T5 as they officially terminate the connect at T123. Although it’s free on the HEX between T123 and T5 it just adds needless hassle if you wanted to use the Connect to save money.
    4. Heathrow Express is not officially part of the National Rail network, when I tried to buy a through ticket to another National Rail station they were unable to help.
    5. They seem to have gotten rid of ‘Express Facts’ and BBC News.
    6. The cost of getting to not quite Central London.

  If you travel often, try get a Network Railcard, that too gets you 33% off.

  I can’t say that if I thought £20 was too expensive, then £18 would push me onto the HEx. Conversely, if I was willing to pay £18, I would also be willing to pay £20, so they are just losing money.
