Tesco now giving 720 Avios for a £5 DVD purchase

I wrote a few weeks ago about Tesco Direct and the latest round of ‘150 Clubcard points for pre-ordering a DVD’ deals – see here.

That batch of deals expires today, 15th September.

Tesco has also launched a new list of DVD’s offering 150 points which runs to 23rd September.

Here is the clever bit ….

Some of the DVD’s appear on both lists!  Like our good £5 friend, Scooby-Doo.

Take a look here.

You will see that some of the DVD’s offer 300 points each, and some Blu-Ray discs 400 points each.  Not all of them, but some.

These deals will finish today, as the original batch of ‘expires 15th September’ offers falls away.

The new list, which will still be available after today, has some decent stuff on it as well, such as The Great Gatsby and Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

    Ker-ching!

I earned nearly 30K Tesco points yesterday and this little glitch came in handy for the last couple of thou 😉

  • squillion says:

Well 10K were the insurance deal (2 x 5000) and I guess that’ll take 12 months to come good 😉

  • Twobfair says:

I can’t seem to see anything above 150 for DVDs (therefore 300) and 200 for Blu-Ray (hence 400 in total.) Scooby is only offering 300 points for me…Am I missing something?

    • Twobfair says:

Ignore me…obviously getting my Avios and Tesco points mixed up 🙂

    • Rob says:

Some are 150/200, some are 300/400. Scooby is 300/400 depending on format.

EDIT – Ignore that. ALL DVD’s are coming up with 300 points when you add them to the basket. Time to get some Smurfs as well as Scooby Doo!

  • CV says:

Some of the DVDs only show the extra points when added to basket. Just worked with Alpha Papa (400 points), which is good as my OH doesn’t like Partridge so didn’t see it at the cinema!

Cue lots of people cancelling preorders and re-ordering today!

  • Kipto says:

    Is this only online ?

  • Idrive says:

i see some dvds also have another code for expiry 23/09 in addition to the 15/09 code

    • Rob says:

Yes, that is why this works. These DVD’s will remain in the promo after today, and a freak bit of crossing over of the two promotions means you get 150 points for each.

      • Bill says:

Would this be considered a good way to gain points
        – ie. would you consider purchasing DVDs you didn’t want purely for the clubcard points? (sorry, am new around here!) What would you normally do with the DVDs afterwards?

        • Rob says:

With Scooby Doo and Smurfs, as the Avios are so cheap (0.69p) you could just bin them. However, it obviously makes more sense to ebay them (or sell them to CEX) if you can be bothered.

Even giving them to Oxfam is a decent deal (well, better than binning them) if you’re a 40% taxpayer. They will email you with the sale proceeds and you can claim 20% of that amount as a tax deduction.

  • Ray says:

Very nice. 3 DVDs bought ,voucher for £5 off. £20 quid spent, 920 cc points.
Will watch and enjoy 2 of the DVDs then off to CEX.

  • Matt says:

Works with code TDX-FT6J £10 off first tesco direct order over £50 just got 1542 clubcard points on £42 spend.
