Iberia adds NH Hoteles as an Avios-earning and Avios-spending partner

Iberia Plus has added a new hotel partner – NH Hoteles, which also includes the Hesperia chain.

The group operates 400 hotels in 26 countries, so there is a decent chance of bumping into one somewhere.

Full details are here.  Earning rates vary by star rating, interestingly.

A 5-star earns 450 Avios per NIGHT

A 4-star earns 350 Avios per NIGHT

A 3-star earns 200 Avios per NIGHT

The emphasis here is on the ‘night’ part, which makes this an attractive deal for longer stays.

Even better, until 15th November the earning rates above are doubled.

You can also redeem Avios directly for NH properties.

The standard redemption table (per night, based on 2 sharing, room only) is:

5-star:  37,545 (basic rate) or 26,000 (promotional rate)

4-star:  28,000 (basic rate) or 18,000 (promotional rate)

3-star:  16,455 (basic rate) or 12,000 (promotional rate)

Unfortunately, the usual poor Iberia website now kicks in.  You can only book by phone to a Spanish number.  Only some hotels can be booked with Avios, but not all.  There is no explanation of what a ‘promotional rate’ is.

Until 15th November, you also get a 50% discount on redeeming Avios for rooms.  This is only valid for 2-night weekend stays, and is a discount on the ‘basic rate’.

However, this could be a very good deal.  At the right property, 16,455 Avios for 2-night 3* accommodation could be a very good deal.  Whether it is easy for an English speaker to book via the Spanish telephone line is another matter ….

I have added NH and Hesperia to our comprehensive list of hotels chains which offer Avios.  Remember that you need an Iberia Plus account to earn Avios, but you can move the across to BA or avios.com via ‘Combine My Avios’.

I’ve stayed in one of their 5 star hotels. Both the food and accommodation were very nice

Hi Raffles, this is interesting. I am scheduled to stay for 2 nights in NH Calderon in Barcelona next week – the booking has already been done from work, but can I claim points after my stay? The Iberia website is hopelessly confusing, so I’m not sure if it can be done.

    • Rob says:

Give them your Iberia number at check-in, it should go through automatically. If not, you can claim in arrears via Iberia but that could be painful!

  • MariborKev says:

What are the chances of “double teaming” this promotion? I am already a member of NH World, what are the chances of getting the points for both this and Avios?

    • Rob says:

Unlikely, given that only Hilton allows you to ‘double dip’ and earn airline and hotel points.
