As I wrote the other day, I spent last Friday at the Holiday Inn Rotherham Sheffield. I booked this stay through my wifes account, as she has not done a paid IHG Rewards Club stay this year.

I also put through all of the current bonus codes that are currently floating around and which I put in this article.

The stay was a big success, generating over 14,000 IHG Rewards Club points on a £48 room. I value those points at around £70.

On top of the list of bonus points codes I listed in the post linked above, there is one new one I used.

Code 1041 gives you 2,000 bonus points on EVERY stay you make for 60 days after registering. You can see this code works from the screenshot above.

There are two further codes about which I have not tried yet:

Code 1012 gives 5,000 points on your next stay within 90 days. This code may not work if you are not a Gold or Platinum member. This is easily the best one-shot code we have seen in a long, long time.

Codes 1023 and 1027 gives 3,000 points on your next stay within 90 days. These codes will work on any account.

Combining codes with The Big Win

My wifes account is now in the interesting position of giving me 4,000 bonus points on every stay she makes within 60 days. This comes from the 2,000 points per stay code above (1041) and the two 1,000 point codes.

I wrote about IHG’s ‘Big Win’ promotion here. Whilst my own targets are simply not achievable, my wife has the easiest ‘Big Win’ challenge of anyone I know. These are her targets:

  • 1,000 points for one stay
  • 6,700 points for 5 nights
  • 12,000 points for 2 different brands
  • 4,000 points for booking 2 stays online
  • 12,000 points for 2 hotels from the list provided
  • 36,000 for completing all of the above

That makes a total of 71,000 points, so about £350 of value. More importantly, we can complete all of the above with just 5 nights!

I have two options. I am in Madrid next month for a night, and there are some €40-50 Holiday Inn Express properties in Madrid on my list of hotels for the 12,000 point bonus. I will book into one of those (although I won’t stay there).

The question then is how many nights. I could just do a 4-night HIX stay at €40-50 per night and be done with it. However, because she is also getting 4,000 bonus points per stay for the next 60 days, there is also the possibility of booking – admittedly more expensive – hotels in London (also on our list) and using them for visiting family and friends in coming weeks.

If I book 4 Holiday Inn Express nights in Madrid, I am ‘all done’ for under €180. That is a real result for 71,000 bonus points, plus around 15,000 points for the stay itself using the latest codes above.

Add in the points from the Holiday Inn stay last Friday, and the five nights will have earned around 100,000 IHG Rewards Club points – enough for 2 nights at a luxury InterContinental in New York, Paris, London etc.

Just signed up to the Big Win target is 80100. Wonders if this is doable?

    • Rob says:

Key driver would be the ‘key cities’ one, depending on where you are travelling.

  • Susan says:

Am I the only one who finds IHG website confusing? Is it possible to look at at an extended date range for best prices?

    • Rob says:

No. Travelocity.com (not .co.uk) used to let you do this, not sure if it still does.

  • Rob says:

You should have had email confirmation for all the codes you registered. Give it 24 hours, in any event, and you will see most (not all) of them listed under ‘My Promotions’ on your IHG Rewards Club account.

1070 is base points, it excludes the 1000 from Big Win.

If your registered and got the on-screen confirmation then they should be OK. The emails always come instantly, some may have been blocked as spam if you had a large number heading to your inbox at the same time.

    • Alan says:

Agreed – their IT system isn’t clever enough to add on bonus code earnings to the predicted points for a stay! 🙂 I think the main benefit of the predicted points bit is if you’re booking on a discounted rate that might not always be eligible credit – if you have proof of the predicted earnings then you should be able to get IHG to add the points retrospectively.

      • Rob says:

Yes, make sure you book a ‘normal’ website rate (ie not Friends & Family or similar, one that comes up without needing any codes) to be certain of getting points.

        • Alan says:

I tend to find it quite hit and miss as to receiving confirmation emails, but if they’re showing under your account you should be good to go!

  • Sarah G says:

    Raffles,

You said you were not going to stay at the HIX in Madrid, does that mean you can book somewhere, pay for it and not turn up to check in? Or do you have to check in for it to register as a qualifying stay?

    • Rob says:

You need to check-in, but I will be in Madrid anyway using my free Melia night. I reckon it will take 45 minutes out of my stay to get the metro to the HIX (I picked one very close to a metro station), check-in (will pre-pay the room) and then leave again. I will mess up the bed which covers me for the first night and then hope there are no issues with nights 2 and 3. I will leave the key in the room and on check-out day give them a call to say I had to dash out.

I’ve done this numerous times in the past and never had any issues.

I am very lucky on this promotion that Madrid is one of the cities I need to hit and I just happen to be there.

Thanks to these codes and others, I’ve just managed to net 21,231 points on a 1 night stay (£89) in the Crowne Plaza Manchester. Biug Win points are yet to post too.

Annoyingly the 5000 point platinum code did not work, not sure why, but overall quite happy with this stash!

    • Rob says:

Yes, its a good time at present! I am running a recap of the current codes later this week.

  • Mikee says:

Don’t forget the IHG price match guarantee. I just booked a 3 night stay at the staybridge suites in stratford, London and last minute.com was cheaper by £20 for the same room/conditions. IHG price match kicked in so I now have the first night free and the other 2 nights adjusted to match the lower price on lm.com. Hopefully the free night will still count towards the Big Win.

    • Alan says:

The IHG rep on FT has now revised their previous advice and only the paid nights of a BRG stay will count – so OK in your case with a multi night stay, but an issue for those who only had one night stays!
