£125 of free meal or drinks in The Shard for everyone, via Shangri-La Golden Circle

How do you fancy a free meal or drinks worth £125 in The Shard?!

Shangri-La Golden Circle is not one of the main hotel programmes I cover on Head for Points. Whilst the group is huge in Asia, via the Shangri-La and Traders chains, their presence in Europe is limited to a few ‘trophy’ hotels. A Paris property opened relatively recently, and they will be running the hotel in The Shard in London from early next year.

However, a great deal is a great deal, and I would strongly recommend taking a look at this one.

Golden Circle

Shangri-La Golden Circle is three years old.  To celebrate, it is running a six-week competition online.

Each week, you play a quick game on their website.  (This week it isn’t even a game, all you do is click on a circle!)  This will earn you 100 Golden Circle points.

When you finish the game, you will also be given a code.  Enter this code in the Shangri-La iOS or Android app (or at http://www.goldencircle-3rd-anniversary.com/mobile/en/Bonus), and you’ll receive another 100 points.

Repeat this weekly for six weeks, and you’ll have 1,200 points. (Actually, you only need 1,000 points for a decent reward.)

If you already have a Golden Circle account, this can top off your account nicely.

If you don’t, there are two main uses of 1,000 points.

The first is to claim a US$100 (£62) food and drink voucher, valid at almost all Shangri-La restaurants and bars.  The obvious use of these would be in The Shard hotel once it opens.  (See here for details of their reward levels for food and beverage vouchers.)

The second is to claim a free night at selected Shangri-La or Traders hotels.  1,000 points isn’t enough for their best hotels, but it will get you a free night at a few properties in China, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan.  (You can see the list by going here and clicking Room Award Redemption Chart.)

Unless you are heading to the location of any of the 1,000 point hotels anytime soon, the US$100 food and drink voucher is the best option.

There are two interesting things to note:

You do not need to be resident in the hotel to use these vouchers (the rules actually forbid you from using them if the bill is charged to a room)

You can use up to $200 of vouchers per meal / bar bill, which means its worth signing up your partner

For a couple of minutes effort a week for 5 weeks, you and your partner could therefore end up with $200 (£125) of vouchers between you.  This should, once it is open, get you a free meal – or a lot of free drinks – in the Shangri-La in The Shard come the Spring.

Firstly, you should go here and sign up for Shangri-La Golden Circle.  (After you have played the game for the first time, you will also be given the chance to sign-up for Golden Circle if you are not already a member. However, I tried this and I never received the membership application email.  Play it safe, and sign up first.)

Then …. Click here to go to the special website for this promotion.  The first week is VERY easy – all you need to do is click on the circle to earn your first 100 points!  You then receive a special code which you need to input into the Shangri-La iOS or Android app to earn your second lot of 100 points.

Then …. download the app and enter the code via the prompt on the home page.  In reality, you do not need to use the app, as it simply directs you to this website instead – http://www.goldencircle-3rd-anniversary.com/mobile/en/Bonus

All sorted!  Note that you do not receive the points immediately, so don’t rush off to check.  The email you receive when signing up as a new member says: “The bonus Golden Circle Award Points will be credited to your account within three to four weeks after the end of the 3rd Anniversary campaign”.

Repeat this process for 5 weeks out of the 6 weeks the game runs and you and your partner will each have your 1,000 points each, which is $100 of food and beverage vouchers.

Note that TODAY is the LAST DAY to play in Week 1 of the game.  Week 2 starts on November 1st.  Of course, it is OK to skip a week because you only need 1,000 of the 1,200 possible points, but you will have no flexibility if you miss out on Week 1.

(EDIT: 5pm Thursday – the game has already flicked over to Week 2, a few hours early.  It’s OK – you can still sign up, as you only need to play 5 of the 6 weeks anyway.  But now you need to be sure that you don’t miss a week!)

Three entrants each week will also win a 3-night stay in a suite at ANY Shangri-La property of your choice.  Given that the Paris property has had exceptional feedback, you wouldn’t need to travel to Asia to claim your prize if you win!

Comments

  1. Just completed week 2’s game. Set a reminder in your phones for a time when you aren;t busy :)

    • I will do a post for week 3, because someone has given me a step by step account of how you actually go about doing a food redemption, which I want to share.

  2. A long wait to get the points..but hopefully will be worth it. I was so certain of winning the 3 night stay I was shortlisting Maldives…and I read the T&Cs…Maldives not included. Neither is Paris! Well, never mind. You never know when ideas you come up with when a 3 night stay voucher sits in your account. Would be fab if one of the HFP readers gets lucky!

  3. Does anyone know how we can “Top Up” these points in our accounts as hitting 2000 points gets you so much more flexibility with free night redemptions. I’ve looked everywhere but can’t find nothing.

    • You can’t buy them, I think, and they are not an Amex transfer partner. Looks like you would actually have to stay with them to earn some more (or potentially – if it counts – run up a massive food and drink bill in The Shard!).

  4. 200 Points have posted to my account

    • Got mine as well, as 2 accounts! Looks like it won’t take as long as they said.

    • Roger Carpenter says:

Me too – no idea if that’s the first week’s points or whether they haven’t (yet?) doubled them as promised.

    • olybeast says:

200 points on each of two accounts. :)

    • I’ve got 200 in my account, and 100 in Mrs account – couldn’t get silly code to work on phone (also had silly issues trying to install and get to work in the first place), and by the time I used the URL on laptop browser, it was past 4pm and code was no longer accepted. But at least I still have all the rest of the weeks to go. It also shows that its the 1st week + bonus that have posted, not 1st + 2nd week entry, otherwise Mrs a/c would also be on 200. Therefore expecting another 200 points to post on each a/c tomorrow… just before I play for the next 200 :)

  5. Got my 200 showing on AW this morning.

    • Nothing showing yet on mine, although I missed out in week 1 by a few hours being over on the West Coast US – hopefully week 2 will post soon!

  6. 200 points just went into both my OH and my account

  7. Week 3 should be available now but doesn’t work for me – anyone else having problems?!

    • What's the Point says:

The website for the week 3 game doesn’t seem to want to load up correctly. Have tried a couple of browsers

  8. Has anyone who used Joe’s helpful url had the bonus 100 points post yet?

I started with week two and have the first 100 points posted but not the bonus

    • I also realised the URL could be used off the phone and used it for week 1 – I had 200 points post. Did you use it before 4pm? Did you get a confirmation after using it, or an error?

  9. wobbly wings says:

    Week 3 now works.

    • I’ve tried 2 browsers and eventually got it working. Is it just me, or was there no “game” involved? The least they could have done before we all take advantage in the spring is make it somewhat entertaining.

      • The first time I did it there was a handle/rope/chain or something which I had to pull down, then it revealed a graphic saying ‘Multiply”. Later when I tried for my wife;s account it didn’t load anything on the screen except the continue button. (Firefox)

  10. I used the link and I have 200 points in each account. It might just take a while to process everything??
