Yesterday, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) released a “preview” of the new list of PointBreaks redemptions via its private online community.
All of these hotels are available for just 5,000 Priority Club points per night - saving up to 45,000 points on InterContinental redemptions.
(Remember that you can currently earn over 30,000 points from a super-cheap one night stay at your local Holiday Inn Express, using the codes I have been publishing recently. Imagine turning that into six free nights at the InterContinental Tahiti! This is the power of this hobby when you really get it working for you.
You can also get 40,000 IHG points by signing up for their £99 credit card via this link. You also get Platinum status with IHG as an unadvertised benefit, so the 8 x 5,000 point nights you get with your bonus may even get upgraded!)
PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested, as soon as bookings open up TOMORROW, 1st November. Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation.
Book each night as a separate reservation if your plans are not firm, as any change to your booking will result in it being repriced. For example, if you want a Friday to Monday stay but it later turns out that you can’t get there until Saturday, you CANNOT simply cancel the Friday night. This would result in a repricing at the full rate (up to 10x higher!). And not arriving until the Saturday would see your reservation already cancelled for a ‘no show’ on Friday. Booking each night separately avoids this.
You will be able to book these hotels for dates up to January 31st.
The preview list is available below (thanks to Loyalty Lobby for formatting it!).
Note that the full United States list will not be available until the promotion goes live.
What do I recommend?
There are some pretty good options on this list, to put it mildly, although unfortunately the deals get better the further away from the UK you go!
InterContinental Tahiti – reduced by 95% to 5,000 points per night – is clearly a deal. There are also a lot of China properties, including an InterContinental in Shanghai and a central Crowne Plaza in Pudong, Shanghai.
In Europe, a Holiday Inn Express in Paris won’t be luxury but for 5,000 points can’t be beat. Crowne Plaza Prague should be OK, although a little out of the centre I believe.
In South Africa, the InterContinental in Sandton / Jo’burg should still be very nice – I stayed there once many years ago. And, of course, you’re heading into the Summer there.
The Crowne Plaza in Muscat (Oman) and a Holiday Inn Express on the beach in Phuket, Thailand may also be of interest.
Middle East & Africa
People’s Republic of China
United States (will be 143 hotels in total)
