IHG releases preview of new PointBreaks list (5,000 point redemptions) – book from Friday!

Yesterday, IHG Rewards Club (the Holiday Inn, HI Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc group) released a “preview” of the new list of PointBreaks redemptions via its private online community.

All of these hotels are available for just 5,000 Priority Club points per night – saving up to 45,000 points on InterContinental redemptions.

(Remember that you can currently earn over 30,000 points from a super-cheap one night stay at your local Holiday Inn Express, using the codes I have been publishing recently.  Imagine turning that into six free nights at the InterContinental Tahiti!  This is the power of this hobby when you really get it working for you.

You can also get 40,000 IHG points by signing up for their £99 credit card via this link.  You also get Platinum status with IHG as an unadvertised benefit, so the 8 x 5,000 point nights you get with your bonus may even get upgraded!)

PointBreaks availability is very limited so book ASAP if you are interested, as soon as bookings open up TOMORROW, 1st November.  Bookings are refundable as with a standard reward reservation.  You can book via this page.

Book each night as a separate reservation if your plans are not firm, as any change to your booking will result in it being repriced.  For example, if you want a Friday to Monday stay but it later turns out that you can’t get there until Saturday, you CANNOT simply cancel the Friday night.  This would result in a repricing at the full rate (up to 10x higher!).  And not arriving until the Saturday would see your reservation already cancelled for a ‘no show’ on Friday.  Booking each night separately avoids this.

You will be able to book these hotels for dates up to January 31st.

The preview list is available below.

Note that the full United States list will not be available until the promotion goes live.

What do I recommend?

There are some pretty good options on this list, to put it mildly, although unfortunately the deals get better the further away from the UK you go!

InterContinental Tahiti – reduced by 95% to 5,000 points per night – is clearly a deal.  There are also a lot of China properties, including an InterContinental in Shanghai and a central Crowne Plaza in Pudong, Shanghai.

In Europe, a Holiday Inn Express in Paris won’t be luxury but for 5,000 points can’t be beat.  Crowne Plaza Prague should be OK, although a little out of the centre I believe.

In South Africa, the InterContinental in Sandton / Jo’burg should still be very nice – I stayed there once many years ago.  And, of course, you’re heading into the Summer there.

The Crowne Plaza in Muscat (Oman) and a Holiday Inn Express on the beach in Phuket, Thailand may also be of interest.

Comments

  1. Does it say what time the promo opens at tomorrow? Just so happen to be in Tahiti in December so could prove to be a good option for me. Thanks

  2. Erico1875 says:

My sons recent 2for1 stay at HI at Manchester total cost £95 netted 25K points. To get 5 reward nights in likes of Crowne Plaza Muscat is unbelievable.

  3. As a new reader of this site, I’m new to this fairly addictive game of points gathering! I’m off to Vegas in a couple of weeks and can book an IHG hotel for less than £50 for a night – what should I be able to earn in terms of points on a single night stay (check-in but not stay) at a Holiday Inn? And how do I get the Big Win promo mail thing?

    • You should be able to get over 30,000 points (good for 6,000 Avios or a free night in a lot of places, or 6 of these PointBreaks nights next time they come around).

Before you book, open an IHG Rewards Club account and book whilst logged in so your number is included.

You MUST book via IHG’s website and NOT via Expedia, hotels.com etc. There is an affiliate link for Head for Points in the right-hand sidebar if you want to use that, I make a couple of per cent on your booking which keeps this place ticking along.

At some point before your stay, go through the post I linked to above (the ‘24,000 points’ one) and enter all the codes on your account. ALSO make sure you go the other threads (one is on Flyertalk) which are linked from the ‘24,000 points’ post. You will end up registering about 20 codes.

The Big Win is also easy to set up, go here https://win.ihg.com and register.

Your IHG points never expire either, so no rush to use them.

(PS. These codes all pay out ‘per stay’. You only need to spend 1 night of your Vegas trip in an IHG property to trigger them – feel free to move hotels for the other nights if the IHG one is not the cheapest / most convenient, it will make only a minimal difference to the points you earn.)

  4. Always nice to see IC and CPs in the list even though it looks unlikely that I’ll be able to take advantage of the list this time round!

You may wish to check your maths for the 95% saving for the IC Tahiti though. That would make the normal rate 100,000 points per night. I believe this a Cat 7 property (40,000), making savings of a mere 87.5%! Shocking value!!! lol 😉

  5. Has anyone had any luck finding these? The list has been updated on the IHG website. But so far, I can’t find a single night in the system for the CP Prague.

    • I’m finding them now. Booked one for 5000, but was charged 30000. So not working great. Finding it impossible to book a 2nd room, even though pricing initially shows as 5000. Maybe too many people trying at the same time.

      • This is the same thing that happened during the Flash Sale a couple of weeks ago. I was getting longer stays pricing with only the first night reduced. I would book each night separately – no risk, you can cancel the first one for a refund if you can’t get the 2nd.

  6. Just booked two nights at the Crown Plaza in Muscat (worth about £400) for 10,000 points. Great deal given that I got the points from a work trip!

  7. Likewise. Booked two nights in The Intercontinental Tahiti (worth about £380) and then cancelled my existing booking at Tahiti Airport Hotel, recouping £202 in the process. Great post. My two nights are sandwiched between 8 nights at Hilton Bora Bora in ROWB, alongside UK-SYD BA F Return. Will post experience on FT. Thanks again Raffles.
