Special ‘statement credit’ offers from Amex inc Argos, Dixons Travel, Harvey Nichols

American Express has launched a series of special offers for cardholders, offering cashback on purchases at selected retailers.

What is different this time is that the discounts ONLY seem to appear on the American Express website when you are logged in. This may (or may not) be an experiment by Amex to see if anyone actually reads the website when checking their statement!

This is what I see across all 3 of my cards. You need to click ‘save’ on the offer on the website in order to activate the discount, it is not automatic:

£10 off £50 spend at Harvey Nichols

£10 off £50 spend at D&D Restaurants (ex Conran)

£15 off £100 spend at Blacks

£10 off £30 spend at Collar & Cuffs (who?)

If anyone has a BA Amex (free one) or Amex Gold and sees anything different, please post.

Meanwhile, some new general offers have appeared on the Amex website:

£10 off £50 spend at Argos (exp 16/12, first 1500 people only) (EDIT: 1,500 limit already reached it seems)

£15 off £60 spend at Carphone Warehouse (exp 16/12)

£25 off £80 spend at Ocado (first time customers, exp 16/12)

£10 off £75 spend at Dixons Travel (under the Travel tab, exp 16/12)

10% off at Heals

There are also bonus points available for shopping at other retailers, but nothing too exciting.

Note that you need to activate each offer before it is valid.

One interesting quirk you may want to exploit is to buy gift cards in Argos for other retailers.

  • erico1875 says:

Simon, can you recycle these particular Visa gift cards through NS&I ?

    • Simon says:

I’ve done it a few times this year for these cards the last time being a couple of weeks ago and had no problems so unless anything has changed since then the recycle route should work.

    • Sinizter says:

Yes. I’ve done it. Since the 3V ones are still allowed (as of last night), I don’t see why these would have been blocked.

      • Dave Williams says:

Are you still finding 3V cards? I thought this was long gone!!

        • What's the Point says:

3V cards in Tesco are still live and kicking, but not as well stocked as they used to be. I almost want them to stop selling them, so I can stop buying them!

  • James67 says:

I had some travel offers such as IHG 241 in Europe but we can get that directly from IHG anyway.

    • Rob says:

Yes, that IHG offer the same one they push through every affinity group!

      • James67 says:

Struck me as a little odd they have an IHG offer but IHG is not one of their hotel partners. Pity though as Iam now down to my last 40k points not having had a singlr paid stsy this year. Big win didntcwork for me either so I guess I will need to risk a second application for black visa to get mr going again.

  • Flyoff says:

The Argos offer on Saturday said it had reached the maximum number of registrations after the details were entered.

  • Michael says:

In the family we got a promotional letter received by Amex but says only for our free BA Amex. Myself got an email about the offer which I understand that I can use whatever Amex card after registration.

My question is: How can I find out if I am one of i.e. the first 1500 cardholders who has registered for a certain offer, as some of them are limited?

  • Worzel says:

    Raffles,
BA Amex (free) and Amex Gold show just 3 offers-D&D Restaurants not listed.

  • John says:

I got HN, C&C and Blacks on the website, but I’ve already used the Blacks one!

  • Nick. says:

Hi Rob. I’ve just received my Amex SPG card. Sorry this is a bit off the discussion. You said you can see all 3 of your cards. Can you have all Amex cards on the same login details home account page? meaning not having to login with 3 different names and password details.
By the way I have blacks, dd and collar and cuffs on my Rewards Gold.

    • James67 says:

Just register all your cards in the one online account then you can see them all together. However you need to click on each individual card or switch views to get full functionality for each card.

    • Rob says:

Yes. When you come to register your card, it will ask if you already have an Amex registration. If you say yes it puts them all together. When you log in it shows you one card but there is a ‘switch card’ option to toggle between them.

  • Andrew says:

Whereabouts on the logged-in Amex page are the offers?

    • Rob says:

On the summary page where it shows your spend and the last couple of transactions. One of the boxes down the side will say ‘Your Offers’ next to it.

      • Andrew says:

Thanks, that’s where I thought it should be but for both my Platinum and my BA cards it says that no offers are available to me. Perhaps these offers are targeted?

        • Rob says:

I had that the first time I checked – only saw offers when I looked at my Amex Plat account. Next time I tried it, I did see offers (albeit the same offers) on my other cards.
