British Airways has launched another of its occasional discount codes.  This one works nicely – giving you a 15% discount on long-haul economy flights – but is restricted to flights priced in Euro.

The rules are simple:

BA 747 retirement

You must book before December 20th on ba.com

Your flight must be priced in Euro, which means it must depart from a Eurozone airport such as Amsterdam, Dublin or Paris

Economy class flights only

Long-haul flights only

The discount works for up to 9 people per booking

The discount applies to the TOTAL cost of the booking, including taxes

It appears to be valid for departures up to the end of March, having tried a few random dates

The British Airways promotional code you need is BADISCOUNT01.

You may think that this isn’t useful to you because you live in the UK.  However, remember that connecting through London escapes Air Passenger Duty as well as saving you the 15% (although the base fare itself may be higher or lower than a ticket starting in London).

You can also build in stopovers.  Coming home, you could build in a long gap between landing in London and flying back to Dublin / Amsterdam / Paris etc.  This means that a) you would get your luggage back in London and b) you would have a ‘free’ one-way ticket back to Europe for a future date, if you chose to use it.

In general, you may struggle to get great value from this discount, but it is worth playing around with it if you have some long-haul travel planned.

Excellent spot Chris. I will run a post on this tomorrow, as those who get the emailed posts won’t see this comment. Valid in ALL cabins as well ….

I have that one working for World Traveller Plus as well. You don’t even need to do the booking in World Traveller and the Upgrade it during the booking process. If you use it on a WTP booking, it goes straight in.

Also works on AA flights booked through BA – e.g. DUB-JFK nonstop without having to connect in London.

  • trickster says:

This can only be used if departing from LBA. Just tried form MAN and it doesn’t work.

  • Tim says:

I have just received this from BA.

    “Dear Mr M,

British Airways has been flying from Leeds Bradford for a year now.

To mark the occasion, we’re offering 15% off your next long-haul return flight from Leeds Bradford.

Enter LBA1Y on the price quote page, when you book before 20 December 2013 to fly before 30 June 2014. And enjoy the first of many happy returns. “

Yes, onto this, will do a post tomorrow for the benefit of email / FB / Twitter readers

  • Trevor says:

Beware of the “discount” offered. When I did searches a 7-10 days ago for flights from BRU via LHR to CPT, they were about £600. Now they’re running at about £900 – the “discount” of 15% doesn’t bring it close to what it was, so it seems they’ve upped their prices hugely and applied a fake discount!
