Avios ‘sale’ launching 6th January

Avios.com sent out an email and tweet yesterday announcing the launch of a redemption flight ‘sale’ on 6th January.

On the face of it, it doesn’t seem hugely exciting.  Whilst it will run for 2 weeks, only SIX different destinations will be offered.  They will be offered one at a time, with each offer running for 2-3 days.

(It’s good news for me, of course, as it will give me 6 posts-worth of information!)

As this is avios.com and not British Airways Executive Club we are talking about, do not be surprised if only Economy flights are offered.  Even if Club World seats are made available, you won’t be able to use a BA American Express 2-4-1 voucher with them, so it wouldn’t represent much of a discount anyway if you have a 2-4-1 to use up.

Let’s see, though.  Roll on January 6th.

Further details can be found here.

The dilemna for me is whether to transfer MR and clubcard points to BA in anticipation of a redemption sale or to wait for a transfer bonus. I suppose last makes more sense as avios can then be used anytime or when UuA represents a good deal. IIRC BA had a redemption sale last year but no sign of one so far. It would be good if they did regular redemption promos like AF/KLM and Lufthansa

Read article in today’s Daily Mail about loyalty cards at Supermarkets, including Clubcard… The readers comments are quite amusing… I guess some people just don’t understand the system…

  • Andres says:

It’s not just 6 destinations on offer. It is 6 different offers, each of which could be for flights, hotels, etc but for multiple destinations.

A similar sale will be offered for Executive Club members.

  • phil says:

Yes I never read it as just 6 destinations.. But we will soon find out

  • jameslon says:

BAEC have now confirmed on Flyertalk that they will also have the Avios sale from 6th January onwards.

  • louie-m says:

Little birdie tells me that one of the offers will be a reduction in the cash component of Reward Flight Savers – but not until next week (i.e w/c 13 Jan)……
