UPDATE – APRIL 2024:  This article is now out of date, but don’t worry.  We produce a monthly summary of the top hotel bonus point offers – please click HERE or use the ‘Hotel Offers’ menu above.

If you are planning your hotel stays for the first quarter of 2014, Hyatt Gold Passport has thrown its hat into the ring with details of its Spring promotion.

You will need to do a minimum of 5 nights in Hyatt properties between 15th January and 30th April to get anything back, so this is of little use to the casual traveller.

In a tweak to its usual model, Hyatt is offering the option of taking bonus points or free night vouchers:

Stay 5 nights, earn 5,000 bonus points or 1 free night

Stay 10 nights, earn 15,000 bonus points or 2 free nights

Stay 15 nights, earn 30,000 bonus points or 3 free nights

Stay 20 nights, earn 50,000 bonus points or 4 free nights

The above is NOT cumulative – you don’t get 20,000 points for 10 nights, just 15,000.

The ‘catch’ is that the free night certificate is only valid at Category 1-4 properties.  Hyatt now has 7 categories, and the majority of European hotels are in the higher ones.  You also need to use your free night by 30th July.  (I assume ‘use’ means complete the stay and not just book it.)

You should therefore think carefully before taking the free nights.  As a Category 4 hotel would only cost 15,000 point per night anyway, you would be foolish to take the free nights if you were planning 20 nights.  It is far better to take the 50,000 points and retain the flexibility to use them whenever and wherever you want.

On the other hand, if you would only manage 5 nights, the free night certificate is worth potentially 3x more than the points alternative …..

You cannot sign up yet, but the registration link will appear here from January 9th.
