New £15 Uber discount code available for free London taxi rides

If you haven’t heard of Uber, it is the relatively new private hire service available in London, having already been operating in New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Paris, amongst other places, for some time.

The core of the service is the Uber app for your smartphone.  Download it, and at the click of a button you can summon either a modest car (via UberX), an executive car (via UberExec) or a luxury vehicle (via UberLux) with all rides automatically charged to the credit card stored in your Uber account.

Uber is currently offering a £15 credit to new customers.   Go to the Uber website, sign-up using code HEADFORPOINTS and £15 will be deposited in your account.

UberX claims to be 30%-50% cheaper than a black cab, and UberExec is unlikely to be hugely more than, say, Addison Lee.  Airport trips come at a fixed price.  And the £20 credit means your first trip will be a good deal anyway.

Can’t get it to price up any 2 routes on the website, get the message that it can’t figure it out, either via postcode or name of attraction. The one thing it did give me a price on was Harrods to Heathrow. However it gave me the route from the rather less well known Harrods in Billericay Essex….

Does anyone know if the £20 Uber credit has a use by date.

    Thanks

If it wasn’t for HFP I wouldn’t even know Uber, thanks, Raffles. Btw, it’s always worth searching the internet for promotional codes before signing up; there’s some advice out there as well how to make the most of them because the use of one certain code could prevent you from using another one (in other words, you have to use them in a specific order).

I used UberLux for a ride from TXL to the Waldorf Astoria which I would call “arriving in style”. BMW 7series, nice driver, reliable service. A gadgety person, I love watching the approaching limo on the virtual map of the Uber App! Once the ride was booked, it furthermore showed me the type of car, its registration number, the name of the driver and even a picture of him (quite appreciated that at 11pm).

Interesting: The driver told me that he was not an Uber employee but runs his own limo service in Berlin, and only when he’s free he does the odd transport for Uber.

What I really liked: no need to tip, my AMEX was charged automatically and I got a detailed invoice by email.

Raffles, I am surprised that UBER are not (yet) one of your affiliate partners. You do not even offer referrals… Given the success of your blog, you could soon be driving round the corner in an Uber limo to buy your Financial Times 😀

Completely unrelated, but Heathrow Parking has a winter special, £4/day when you park for 5 nights. I was in shock when I got a quote for 9 nights for £36! In Long Stay T1/3.

Sadly no app for the blackberry luddites among us!

What’s the difference between Uber Credit Balance and available promotions? I assume they can not be used in sync? I also assume promotions can not be stacked, so how will you know what one is going to be used (if that makes sense)?

    Thanks

Hey, does the £20 have to be used by the end of January?
