Earn Avios with Iberostar Hotels in Spain – and redeem them too

Iberia Plus has announced a new tie-up with Spanish hotel chain Iberostar.

Whilst not a chain I have ever used, Iberostar appears to run a large number 4- and 5-star ‘Summer holiday’ properties in Tenerife, Majorca etc.  They are also in Bulgaria, Brazil, Cape Verde, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Greece, Hungary, Jamaica, Mexico, Montenegro, Morocco, Spain and Tunisia.

The main Iberostar website is here if you want to see what they can offer.

As per the Iberia website, the earning rate if you stay at an Iberostar hotel is 150 Avios points per night.  These Avios must be deposited in an Iberia Plus account, although you can move them across to BA or avios.com via ‘Combine My Avios’.

What is more interesting is that, from March 1st, you will be able to redeem your Avios for Iberostar properties.  The Iberia website is showing the following rates:

Premium Gold and Grand Collection – 12,500 Avios per night

Premium Classic – 7,500 Avios per night

As you would expect from iberia.com there is no small print and you cannot book online.  You will therefore need to rustle up a Spanish speaker and call their Spanish number in order to attempt to book.  On the face of it, though, these do not appear to be bad redemption rates if you can get a Spanish 4* or 5* during the Summer seasons.

Some of their properties are all-inclusive, so potentially great value if they are included. Perhaps 2p/Avios redemption value. Never stayed at one personally, but there were some good-looking Iberostar Grand properties in the Carribean eg:

    http://www.thegrandcollection.com/en/hotels/punta-cana/iberostar-grand-hotel-bavaro/introduction

I imagine redemptions could be hard work though.

  • Corrine says:

I’m guessing at this stage it only applies to the Spanish Hotels in the group ? we are looking to book an Iberostar in Mexico in the next few months !! it would be amazing if we could earn/redeem Avios on this booking !! 🙂

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Nope. You might be in luck.

Choose from our many Spanish destinations in Andalusia, Majorca or the Canaries, get deep into Mediterranean charming towns in Tunisia, Greece or Montenegro, or explore the exotic landscapes of Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Cuba or Jamaica collecting or redeeming Avios in all these destinations.

      • Corrine says:

WOW – thanks for that – I’d anticipated paying cash for this part of our holiday…. fingers crossed !! just need to find availability for my VFC UC flights first !!

  • Mark says:

We’re about to stay at Iberostar Bavaro, Punts Cana, booked through hotels.com. does it look like the you need to book direct to be able to earn avios?

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

Call the number and ask. Can’t hurt to try.

    • Rob says:

Presumably you would, but no harm in trying. They don’t give Avios for in-hotel spending, unfortunately.

      • Angela says:

We have stayed at both the Grand properties in the Dominican and Mexico and are returning to the Dominican later in the year
Would be good to get avios but direct price from iberostar is often not the cheapest so shop around don’t just dive in for the avios

    • Halo says:

I stayed at the Iberostar Bavaro Punta Cana on Friday night, due to a flight delay – but the Check-In Staff didn’t understand how to put swipe my Iberia Avios card. If you can upgrade to the adults only Iberostar Grand Bavaro instead I would do so – that is a Wow hotel, a true 5-star the Bavaro (as opposed to Grand Bavaro) is in reality a 4-star family hotel.
