New Tesco Clubcard partner added – ibis Hotels

A new hotel partner has appeared on the Tesco Clubcard website – budget chain ibis.
There are two different offers available.
The first relates to Ibis ‘premium locations’. For the hotels listed below, you will pay £60 in Clubcard vouchers for a one night stay. Full details are on the Tesco website.
The participating ‘premium’ hotels are:
- ibis Brighton City Centre
- ibis Styles Blackpool
- ibis Cardiff
- ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile
- ibis Edinburgh Centre South Bridge
- ibis London Blackfriars
- ibis London City
- ibis London Excel Docklands
- ibis London Earls Court
- ibis London Euston St Pancras
- ibis London Docklands
- ibis Styles London Excel
- ibis London Greenwich
- ibis Portsmouth Centre
- ibis London Shepherds Bush
- ibis London Stratford
- ibis London Thurrock M25
- ibis Styles London Southwark Rose
- ibis London Wembley
- ibis York Centre
It is not clear if there are black out dates or not – the Tesco website says that you should call to check availability on a special number before booking. You cannot pay at the hotel with Tesco vouchers – you need to exchange them online for a special voucher.
Is this a good deal? Not really. London Stratford for Monday 10th February is just £47! Even the most expensive (Southwark) is only £111 which is less than double the face value of your voucher.
The second offer costs £25 per night in Clubcard vouchers. I assumed that there was better value to be had here, but I underestimated how cheap ibis hotels can be! Participating hotels are:
- ibis Aberdeen Centre
- ibis London Barking
- ibis Birmingham Airport
- ibis Birmingham Bordesley Circus
- ibis Birmingham City Centre
- ibis Styles Birmingham Centre
- ibis Birmingham Holloway Circus
- ibis Bradford Shipley
- ibis Bristol Centre
- ibis Bristol Temple Meads Quay
- ibis Cardiff Gate
- ibis Carlisle
- ibis Chesterfield Centre
- ibis Chesterfield North
- ibis Coventry Centre
- ibis Coventry South
- ibis Dublin
- ibis London Elstree Borehamwood
- ibis London Gatwick Airport
- ibis London Heathrow Airport
- ibis Glasgow City Centre
- ibis Gloucester
- ibis Hull
- ibis Leeds Centre
- ibis Leicester City
- ibis Lincoln
- ibis London Luton Airport
- ibis Northampton Centre
- ibis Nottingham Centre
- ibis Plymouth
- ibis Preston North
- ibis Reading Centre
- ibis Rotherham East
- ibis Rugby East
- ibis Sheffield City
- ibis Southampton Centre
- ibis Stevenage
- ibis Swansea
- ibis Wellingborough
A quick look for the same date (10th February – a Monday, which you would expect to be expensive) gives you a price of £33 at the Sheffield and Rotherham properties. This is a complete waste of your Clubcard vouchers.
Birmingham was no better, with the three hotels costing just £37-£40 for cash.
I think we can safely write this one off. To be honest, I am surprised that Tesco let such a poor offer get onto their system, as it simply degrades the entire Clubcard offering.
