Shangri-La in The Shard to open on May 6th – time for those free drinks ….

Shangri-La has announced that its luxury hotel in The Shard in London will open on May 6th.  This is a modest nine years after it was first announced!  Reservations will be possible from March 17th.

Note, though, that the bar on Level 52 will not open until July 1st.

Golden Circle

The reason I mention this, of course, is that many Head for Points readers – probably a few hundred! – are sitting on $100 per person of vouchers for free drinks and food at Shangri-La hotels following their promotion last year.

There are various eating and dining options.  GŎNG on level 52 will be the highest bar in London.  It apparently takes its name from ‘dougong’, the ancient Chinese structural element of interlocking wooden brackets that will be a feature of the bar’s interior.

TĪNG is the Chinese restaurant and lounge on level 35 and LÁNG will be a deli on the ground floor.

It is important to note that Shangri-La may still bring in some restrictions on the use of vouchers in some restaurants and bars – it already does at a couple of other hotels.  We won’t know until nearer the time.  I will also remind you of the procedure for booking and collecting your $100 vouchers as the opening date gets closer.

My first week base and bonus points failed to show up on my balance despite inputting the bonus code several times. So I only have 800 points. Into how many $ will these points convert to? $80?

    • Pommyboi says:

I have the same problem. if you have the emails with the codes on you can get in touch with customer services, unfortunately I deleted mine.

Does anyone know how we can quickly and easily get another 200 points otherwise some of these will be wasted if they only go in $50 increments.

  2. $50 – they go in 500 point increments.

From what I can see the restrictions only apply when the restaurant is run by a 3rd party as opposed to the hotel itself. I mean, you can use the vouchers at Petrus in HK, so they really have no shame…

    • What’s wrong with Petrus?

      • Nothing. The point is they will let people use the vouchers at their very best places. It’s just (I think) where a 3rd party operates the restaurant that you can’t redeem them.

  3. I used my voucher last Sunday in Shanghai for a very nice Sunday brunch buffet for the wife and I.

It was very nice. Free booze too!

  4. Britbronco22 says:

I emailed the hotel earlier this week to ask when they were opening and they wouldn’t even tell me what month they were opening!

  5. So I ended up with 360 points after using the whole family’s names (which works out to $300 unless combining is possible), seems like we can get a buffet in HK for US$100 and a small amount of cash, plus $200 for London eventually

  6. I had to make a claim for 800 points, and after a few emails to SL, and sending them a copy of my ID and the emails with the bonus code in, they added all the points once they were satisfied I didn’t have duplicate accounts.

Opening rates are from £450 apparently. Not sure I’ll be trying this hotel out for a night.

  7. My points came through fine. I played the game for my wife too. She spent her $100 on a massage at the Shangri-la Rasa Ria and mine went towards a hefty bar bill at the same resort. Cheers Raffles!

  8. Felixstowe Flyer says:

I got 1000 points through this, thanks Raffles! My question is when do the points expire? 1 year or 3 years? The website wording is rather confusing!

    • pazza2000 says:

      I hope it’s 3 years and agree it’s confusing.

Hopefully the influx of persons here to collect there vouchers in the weeks after opening doesn’t bring around any restrictions or reductions.

  9. I’ve kept mine for a night at the Traders Hotel Manila, that’s at least an £80-90 value.

    Thanks Raffles!

  10. The good lady and i are I’m hoping to use the $100 in Dubai at Easter. Any recommendations for reasonable dining/drinks options?

  11. I’m deffo gong to be there before too lang, can’t ting wait for my $200 cocktails 😉

  12. The hotel opens May 6th 2014. However it is a staggered opening. The GŎNG bar on level 52 will not be open till July 1st 2014.

  13. So, just to double check for those of us who ended up with 800 points rather than 1000 is there any quick and simple way to earn the extra 200 points?
