Earning Avios by recycling cans at Tesco Recycling Centres

Reader Paul dropped me a line to outline the success he was having earning Avios points by using Tesco Recycling Centres which are based at around 100 stores across the country.

You can feed your empty drink cans into them, as well as jars and bottles.  Tesco gives you 1 Clubcard point for every 2 aluminium cans.  You do not earn anything for any other products.

As well as his own supply, Paul is recycling cans thrown out by his local bowling club, which helps to boost his balance further.

There is no official list of which stores have a recycling centre.  This old article (external link) lists around 100 but does not claim to be comprehensive.  It is worth looking out for it at your nearest Extra store, as that is the most common place to find them.

Im pretty sure that the Tesco at Colney Hatch (A406) North London does this.

    Off topic question…

I have just applied for an upgrade to my Amex Gold -> Platinum in order to take advantage of the Marco Polo Gold before it ends.

I have an Avios redemption flight coming up, which I don’t seem to be able to change my frequent flyer number on via Manage My Booking from my BA exec club membership. Should I be able to? If not, can I phone them once I have the Marco Polo membership and ask them to amend it?

  • Jonathan says:

Any inside news on a points boost for Clubcard to Avios conversions? There hasn’t been one for aaaaages! 🙂

  • Phillip says:

Unfortunately I gave up on this years ago, because 80% of the machines seemed to be broken. I have 4-5 near me and most of them seem to be out of service constantly!
