Hilton HHonors is currently launching targetted promotions with pretty much every major airline.  Until this BA one launched, the Lufthansa one looked the most generous and still is for very expensive stays.

The BA version allows you to earn 3,500 bonus Avios points from just two Hilton Family stays before the end of July.

The promotion is part competition (win a holiday in Dubai – at the new Waldorf-Astoria, which ironically I see every day across the Gulf from our current hotel) and part bonus miles promotion.

Let’s start with the competition.

The website says:

“British Airways Executive Club Members residing in the UK who register or enrol with Hilton HHonors between 1st April and 30th June 2014, will be entered into a prize draw to win a luxury holiday to Dubai. Prize includes 2 BA Club World Return flights to Dubai, 5 night stay at the Waldorf Astoria Dubai – Palm Jumeirah plus a chauffeur driven car to and from the airport courtesy of Avis.”

However, when you look at the rules, it appears that only NEW members of Hilton HHonors can take enter the competition.  The exact wording is:

“An Eligible Participant is a person who is a member of the British Airways Executive Club, a resident in the United Kingdom (excluding residents of Northern Ireland), aged 18 years or over and who enrolls onto the “Hilton HHonors Program” (“Program”) during the Competition Period”

We therefore cannot be certain is existing members are eligible for the competiton.

Secondly, the bonus Avios.

The wording is not clear, to be honest.  In one place it implies that only new members of Hilton HHonors will receive the bonus Avios, but in the rules it says that it applies to existing members too.

However, we know from people who have already stayed that EVERYONE receives the bonus Avios.

The promotion works like this:

You MUST register in advance at this website (if you are not already a Hilton HHonors member, you can also join at this site).  The deadline for registration is 30 June which is a month earlier than your last potential stay date of 31 July.

You MUST set your Hilton HHonors account to earn ‘points and variable miles’ with British Airways set as your airline miles partner

You will earn 1,500 bonus Avios on top of the usual Avios (1 per $1 spent) on your first Hilton Family stay before 31 July

You will earn 2,000 bonus Avios on top of the usual Avios (1 per $1 spent) on your second Hilton Family stay before 31 July

Remember that, as well as Hilton, this promotion will also count for stays at Conrad, Waldorf-Astoria, Hilton Garden Inn and other Hilton Family brands.  At Hampton or Homewood Suites properties, you get a far smaller bonus of 500 Avios for the first stay and 600 for the second.

Assuming it is open to all, this should work out nicely for my visit to Thomas (the Tank Engine) Land at Drayton Manor in July, when we are staying at the new Hilton property in Burton upon Trent at the St George’s Park National Football Centre.

Maybe an article on the best hotel to stay in when visiting Thomas the Tank Engine Land? I’m burning some megabonus certs at Leicester Marriott to do the same thing!

The official hotel looks good with the Thomas themed rooms but obviously no points!

  • Anon says:

Any news on Virgin HH promos?

  • Jack says:

I’m thinking there could be some sort of value here if i were to book two separate reward stays at a Category 1 hotel using my existing account, at a cost of 10,000 HH points. Then i’d open a new account and change the HH number on the booking to the new one. Once the points post i can simply merge the two accounts. Does anyone know of a reason this wouldn’t work?

    • Rob says:

      Questions would be:
      * Can you change the Hilton HHonors number in a reward stay? Or does it get locked in because the reward night is booked from that account? And would changing it send up red flags?
      * Do reward nights count for this promotion? (They usually do with Hilton)
      * Do you need to charge something to your room on a reward night to trigger the bonus? (this is normally necessary with Hilton because a £0 bill won’t trigger any base points and so won’t trigger any bonus points)

Given that 20,000 points = 2,000 Avios for a direct conversion, then I’m not sure that using 20,000 points for a mattress run – and then having to charge something to your room, plus of course drive to the hotel etc – is worth it for 3,500 Avios.

      • Jack says:

2 Stays at a category 1 can be done for 10,000 HH points though, so really the potential loss is only 1000 avios. Your probably right though, the effort required for a very modest return of 2500 avios is not worth it.

  • N says:

It does seem the competition is only for new members. The email they sent me on Wednesday only mentioned the bonus Avios, which I registered for. I have just tried to register for the competition using the link above, but it said I have already registered. The small print on the “you have already registered” page only mentions the points, not the competition.

  • Rob says:

That is the only current one … and you can’t sign up for that if you signed up for the same one they ran in the Winter.

  • andy stock says:

I got the email yesterday despite have my HH points being transferred to Iberia Plus, I guess before I make a booking I will swap it over to BA points.

    • Kipto says:

Off topic but hilton honors visa linked. I have just qualified for the free night voucher at a hilton after spending £750. I have been told it will take between 6-8 weeks for the voucher to be available to use. I cannot believe
It will take that long. Does anyone have any experience of how long in reality it takes for the voucher to be redeemable !

      • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

I think they do it in batches. A friend who applied +- a few weeks from me received his certificate at the same time as me. Luck of the draw therefore. Mine was more like 1-2 weeks I think.

      • Eastland says:

Agreed – mine took about 4 weeks to post.
Struggling to use it though… only 6 months validity.
Raffles I don’t suppose Hilton would extend this would they?

        • Kipto says:

I qualified via ihg a few weeks ago for the 40000 points on their card and the points were in the account within days. Hilton told me that although I qualified for the free night some weeks back I had to wait for my statement date to kick in and then it would be 6-8 weeks. How on earth it needs to be that long I don’t know. Rant over !!

        • Rob says:

No, I don’t think so. I did post a while back that I was delaying my own reapplication for this card for that very reason – I wanted to be sure the voucher would be valid over the Summer.

  • David Barron says:

Thanks for the heads up on this promotion. I am an existing HHonors silver member and BAEC Blue member. I signed up for this offer the day prior to a stay at Hilton St Georges Park on 19th April and this morning my 1500 bonus Avios points are showing on my HHonors statement so in summary this promotion DOES WORK FOR EXISTING MEMBERS!

Also thanks to Headforoints I should hit HHonors Gold status imminently as I have just completed my 4th stay having signed up as an Accenture employee (no ID asked for!) despite me being a genuine government employee making my reservations either as a Government employee or using Hilton code PR11PN. Included within these 4 qualifying stays were 2 Reward stays using 10,000 points per night at a Doubletree (for which I surprisingly got 1000 points per night back thanks to the Hilton Weekend Stay promotion!)

Thanks Raffles – All I need to do now is win the BA / Hilton prize draw to Dubai!

  • Danksy says:

I registered for this last Thursday and stayed the following night. I have had my bonus 1500 avios post to my hhonors account as well as 650 bonus points for using my hhcard on top of 7,000 points and 200 avios!

I originally booked this under the virgin offer, but switched at the last minute! 😀
