News from the beach: Avios Suitcase / Tesco Wine bonus / Free Club Carlson Gold

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I would normally have covered these deals in more depth, but we are still on holiday and I don’t have the time to do full posts!

Avios Suitcase

Yes, you’re rich.  A new ‘sticker’ worth a whole 10 Avios points is now available if you watch a video.

(If you don’t know what I’m talking about, start here in this post.)

50 bonus points per bottle of Tesco wine in Scotland

Until 27 April, Tesco has brought back its offer of 50 Clubcard points when you buy wine.  This is only available in Scotland, because the new pricing laws for alcohol there mean that Tesco can no longer offer cash discounts beyond a certain level.

This new offer appears to work on any bottle of wine, not just Tesco Finest.

The cheapest item seems to be this very dodgy Black Tower stuff at £1.19, which would be 1p per Avios even if you pour it down the sink (which may be the best option!).  Scotland only, remember.

Get free Club Carlson Gold

This offer (deleted as now dead) was targetted at specific American Express cardholders but is working for anyone.  If you open a new Club Carlson account, it will be opened at Gold level.  This will give you decent additional benefits on your next Radisson, Park Inn or Park Plaza sale.  Importantly, you will also be able to book their special ‘2 for 1’ and ‘4 for 2’ weekend packages which often offer great deals.

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards

How to earn Radisson Rewards points and status from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Radisson Rewards does not have a dedicated UK credit card. However, you can earn Radisson Rewards points by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

These cards earn Membership Rewards points:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:3 into Radisson Rewards points which is a very attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 3 Radisson Rewards points.

Even better, holders of The Platinum Card receive free Radisson Rewards Premium status for as long as they hold the card.  It also comes with Hilton Honors Gold, Marriott Bonvoy Gold and MeliaRewards Gold status.  We reviewed American Express Platinum in detail here.

Avios suitcase, can’t share it on my nexus tablet.

  • Mark says:

About “Free Club Carlson Gold”. The link give confusing info – quote:

Fast Track to Gold Elite Status
Receive a complimentary upgrade to Club Carlson Gold Elite Status valid until 28 February 2015, without having to meet any minimum stays or nights requirements.
    AND:
Enrol in Club Carlson now before 31 May 2014 to benefit from a complementary upgrade to Club Carlson Silver Elite Status until February 28th 2015.

So, who gets gold and who gets silver?!

    • blenz101 says:

You get gold, confirmed after submitting the form.

    • idrive says:

this is then a reason to cancel the platinum card, together with some other reasons. I will think what my +/- are re insurance, prority pass etc and decide at some point.

      • Andrew says:

Do you keep the gold status after cancelling the card?

        • Alan says:

Yes you keep all partner card status levels for the remainder of the membership year for that scheme. The only exception is Priority Pass, which is deactivated upon cancellation of the linked Amex Plat card.

  • martin says:

When sharing posts on the Avios Suitcase app, don’t forget to set the privacy to ‘Only Me’ – you still get the points, but also don’t clutter your friends’ timelines 🙂

  • wetboy1uk says:

clubcarlson offer seems pointless if you are taking it up for the 2 for 1 or 4 for 2 offer as checking on most of the hotels I want this is not available until March next year when the gold status expires – con or what!!!

    • Rob says:

Historically availability is OK although you generally need a lot of hotels in a city with the hope that 2-3 may be running it.

** 50 bonus points per bottle of Tesco wine in Scotland **

Confirmed that this works. 50 Clubcard points per bottle. You’re a bit off on your bottle pricing (inflation?). Miniature bottles are £1.89. But 50 points per item also posts for Everyday Value Spanish red, white and rosé wines in tetrapaks for £1.49.

    • Erico1875 says:

Ive got a 80 bonus point voucher for Tesco Cava. I wonder if they will stack?
The missus likes the mini bottles too so it might be a productive points weekend 🙂

      • Pat Bucher says:

        It will stack.

        • Erico1875 says:

Yes thanks. I had the 80 pts Cava voucher, a 25 pt value brand voucher and a dbl points voucher.
2 bottles of Cava, 5 mini Savignon Blanc, and 1 mini Spanish white Value carton. £21 spend for 540 CC points and got a £5 off £40 helping hand voucher too.
So Im going to take the Amex and go mental on Visa gift cards tmorro to get more helping hand vouchers

    • Rob says:

Those miniature bottles taste like cat urine – the last time I bought one was years ago when Tesco ran a similar promo! Think they were £1.29 or £1.49 then!

  • Stuart says:

Tesco Wine by the case also have 1000 points when you spend £100 but can be stacked with 25% off offer

    • idrive says:

is there any particular code for it? I just tried with a £117 order but no 1000points on the checkout

      • Stuart says:

eCoupon XXH4JC valid for all orders of £100 or more (excluding delivery charge) placed by 23.59 on 1st May 2014. Cannot be used with any other eCoupon beginning with ‘XX’ and can only be used once per customer and once per order. You must be 18 or over to order and receive alcohol.

        • Idrive says:

          Thank you!

        • david cliff says:

Code works perfectly, thank you ! 36 bottled of wine for £107, 1107 Clubcard points which converts to 2656 Avios !!

    • Fenny says:

Oooh, ta. Good thing I didn’t buy £92 of wine on Friday!

  • kiusaka says:

so how do you use this offer if you already have a club carlson account?

    • Rob says:

You can’t – you’d need to open a new account and then, perhaps in a month or so, try to get it merged with your existing one.
