If you have a Marriott Rewards account, you can earn a quick free 2,000 point per month with their new social platform ‘Plus Points’.

You can earn this 2,000 points each month until the end of November and it won’t take a huge amount of your time.

Marriott Plus Points

Marriott Plus Points is a new way to earn Marriott Rewards points via social media.

Earning your first 500 points is easy.  Go to the Marriott Plus Points website here and link your Facebook account.  After you have linked your Facebook account, you have the option of linking Twitter, Instagram and Foursquare accounts.

This will only work if your Marriott Rewards account is set to earning points and not miles.  If your account is set to miles, you will have to switch to points first.  Your Facebook account also needs to have at least one ‘friend’ and be more than 24 hours old.

You can then:

Like Marriott Rewards on Facebook for 250 points, and

Follow Marriott Rewards on Twitter for 250 points

That is the easy bit.  You receive the points after 7 days, as long as your have not un-liked them!

You can get a further 250 points by following specific Marriott hotels on Twitter and / or Facebook.

There is a full list, together with the relevant Twitter and Facebook links, on the US blog Doctor of Credit here.

Each month (it is not clear if it is calendar month or every 30 day period) you need to go to this link and Facebook like or Twitter follow eight Marriott properties.  8 x 250 points gets you the maximum 2,000 monthly points.

For the first month you can only follow another six properties as you have already earned 500 points from following Marriott Rewards.

I did this the other day and it seems to work fine.  I got email confirmations for signing up with my Twitter and Facebook accounts and I got email confirmations for four of the six other hotels I followed on Twitter.  All confirmed that I would receive 250 points next week as long as I didn’t unfollow!

You can also earn points with ‘interaction’ – but I don’t recommend it

Another way of working towards your 2,000 points per month is, and I quote:

Sharing or retweeting our posts to your Facebook or Twitter feeds each day

Checking into properties on Facebook or Foursquare every day you visit

Posting a photo each day to Instagram and tagging it with a property’s location

Using #LoveMarriottRewards, #RenHotels or #Autograph in your daily Facebook, Twitter and Instagram posts

Liking and following select brands and properties in Facebook or Twitter

This is a complete waste of your time, as you only earn 25 points per action.  Don’t even think about it.  Focus on following or liking eight hotels per month from the list provided by the Doctor of Credit blog – it will only take a few seconds per month.  (Click hotel name to go to Twitter, click Follow, close window, go back to Doctor of Credit list, click next hotel, repeat.)

Is this worth it if I don’t already have a Marriott Rewards account?

Marginally.  10,000 Marriott Rewards points converts into 2,000 airline miles.

It would take you five months of ‘liking’ eight hotels per month to earn enough points for 2,000 Avios.  Can you remember to play the game that long?

10,000 points would also be enough for a free night but only at a very downscale Marriott property.  The going rate for a top hotel in London is 45,000 points for example.

As I do have an active Marriott Rewards account I will give this a go.  If the 2,000 points post promptly seven days after ‘liking’ the hotels then I will keep on with it.

My points have been posting promptly for this promo so far, I didn’t get an email for 2 of the hotels I followed on Twitter (possibly the same 2 as you didn’t get an email for if you are going down the list alphabetically), so I’m not sure if those will earn me points.

You also get an email once the points have posted. I couldn’t find the emails for this promo initially as they all go to the email address of your linked Facebook account not your Marriott account, mine also ended up in my Junk folder.

  • Maximus says:

Unfortunately I have no Facebook friends.

Perhaps I should be proud of that fact? 🙂

Would anyone like to be my friend? I promise to bombard you with lots of Marriott Hotel & Avios messages on a frequent basis 😀

    • Rob says:

No problem, email me (raffles at headforpoints.co.uk) with the exact name on the FB account and I will befriend you from my (dummy) FB account!

  • Sean says:

As you can have multiple Facebook and Twitter accounts, I’d recommend to open up secondary accounts for promos. That way, you can take advantage of all that’s out there, but your “real” timeline won’t get spammed. Worked for me.

    • Maximus says:

      Ah ha! Thanks.

    • Rob says:

That is exactly what I do. If you look at the HFP Twitter account you’ll see that it is not following any Marriott hotels, it all goes via a secondary account.

  • SingingDwarf says:

I haven’t fully investigated yet – but it might be possible to use IFTTT to automate the process. If it is, I’ll share the recipe and post details.

  • William Charles says:

Thanks for the link, Raffles – much appreciated! Also a few people on FT are reporting they’ve been able to get more than 2,000 points per month. I’ve just gone ahead and followed all of the accounts on twitter, we’ll see how it plays out.

  • Stephen says:

As a new member, do I want to select points or miles as my earning preference? Can points be later converted into miles at the same rate?

    • Rob says:

You need to select points to benefit from this promotion. You can switch at a later date once all the points have posted.

  • Maximus says:

Right I now have a friend. I have liked Marriott Rewards and 8 hotels on FB (though now realise I only need to like 6 in Month 1!). I have linked my account to Twitter but I can not seem to loacte Marriott Rewards on Twitter to follow, only Marriott Hotels.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

    • TimS says:

You don’t NEED to follow “Marriott Rewards” on Twitter I don’t think. Once your account is linked, any of the Mariott properties should give you the 250 points each.

I followed @Marriott & the email still referenced the expected 250 points.

    • Rob says:

Seems to be just @Marriott looking at my account. This was the link I clicked from the site.

    • Maximus says:

      Thanks.

  • ups says:

Do you have to also follow on twitter, or just linking Facebook and then liking 9 hotels sufficient for the max 2000 points per month?

    • Rob says:

Just using Facebook would be OK although I don’t think there are enough hotels on the list to allow you to get to November just using Facebook. You could certainly do 8 per month for a few months.
