New ‘30% off’ and ‘4-4-3’ InterContinental / Holiday Inn promos for Summer

IHG Rewards Club has launched two new promotions offering discounted rates for stays in Europe over the Summer.  Slightly frustratingly, there are two different promotions and each seems to have its own list of participating hotels.

These offers are valid at selected InterContinental, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Crowne Plaza, Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites properties in Europe.  This includes the UK.

IHG Rewards Club

Deal 1:  30% off your stay

This is the best of the two offers because it has no minimum stay requirements.

It is valid for stays from July 4th to September 4th which are booked and pre-paid 21 days in advance.  You also need to be an IHG Rewards Club member although, as membership is free, that is not a barrier.

You are meant to search for availability via this special booking page.  That page also explains the rules of the promotion.

However, the rates are also loaded into the main IHG booking system although they do not always correlate.  I did a random booking for a weekend at the InterContinental Berlin in August.  Via ihg.com I could book this special rate on a ‘room only’ basis with no option of adding breakfast.  On the special offer page, I was ONLY offered a breakfast-inclusive price.

This link did offer a genuine saving although it was small.  The cheapest room-only price for the dates I checked was €85 compared to €92 for the general public.

Deal 2:  4 nights for the price of 3

The second deal covers 600 hotels across Europe – the ‘30% off’ deal above only covers 500 properties.   It is obviously less useful because of the longer stay length and the fact that the discount is only 25%.

The special booking page for this offer is here.  The rules are also on that page.  The stay dates are the same as the other deal (4 July – 4 September) and you need to book 21 days ahead.

Again, though, the rates – if the hotel is participating – show up via a standard ihg.com search if you look for a four night stay.

The Holiday Inn Mayfair in London on some sample dates I picked was £224 under this promotion.  A standard pre-paid room for the same dates was £261 so it does offer some value.  Amusingly, when I ran a second test at a different hotel the 4-4-3 rate was actually higher than the Advanced Purchase rate for the same dates.

Do these rates earn points?

Neither of these deals is life-changing but it is obviously worth checking your dates if you are planning a stay.

A ‘more than 30% discount’ is usually the cut-off point for not receiving points in IHG Rewards Club so these rates should both be OK.  I do recommend – if you book the first deal – that you take a screenshot of the page in the booking process where it shows how many points you will receive.  This is usually enough proof to win over the IHG service centre if there is a problem.

Can you double up the two offers?

So a room costing £100 becomes £70 under the 1st offer, then 4 nights for the price of 3 gives you £210 for a £400 stay – an effective saving of 47.5%.

Assuming not, but nice to dream.

I used the 2 nights for 1 night promo last year at the HI Surbition and still earned all my usual IHG points and some bonus points from Raffles codes!

  • Brian says:

I’ve just received an email from IHG. Among the news it contains is the following:

    Priority Club VISA
Receive a Free Night Certificate Every Year, Worldwide Plus 30,000 points & a 10% rebate on redemptions with the NEW Priority Club® Select Visa®

So it looks like they’re making the Visa card much better. I may have to cancel mine and then reapply…

    • Brian says:

Actually, the fact that they’re calling it ‘Priority Club’ suggests it is not so new after all, so maybe it’s a load of nonsense.
