New Amex / Foursquare deals – cashback at Tesco, Zizzi, Pizza Express, Argos, Ask, Primark

American Express has launched some new Foursquare deals after a long hiatus.

This promotion offers you £5 statement credit when spend £10 at Tesco.  You will also receive £10 back when you spend £30 at Pizza Express, Primark, Zizzi, Ask and Argos.

You must register your British Airways, Lloyds Avios, Starwood Preferred Guest, Gold, Platinum, bmi, American Airlines, Emirates or indeed any other American Express card with Foursquare.

Unlike recent Amex cashback deals, this one does not seem to be available via the American Express website.  You need to register with Foursquare.  If you have never done this before then the instructions are below.

Supplementary cards count as separate cards (unless the supplementary cards have the same number as the main card, which often happens with MBNA) – so you may have more qualifying Amex cards than you think.

These deals are limited to between 5,000 and 15,000 cards.  I expect this target to be hit quickly given that you can register multiple cards.

Once registered, you have until 31st July to make the required spend on the card.  One trick from last time to remember is that Argos sells a lot of gift cards for other stores – this effectively makes the ‘save £10 on £30’ available at a lot of additional retailers!

You can register all of your Amex cards as long as you create a separate Foursquare account – with a separate email address – for each one.

How to sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card

If you are new to this sort of deal, this is how you sync your Amex card to your Foursquare card:

Download the Foursquare app onto your ipad, iphone, Android device or whatever you carry!  (A wi-fi only ipad or ipod touch will also work OK)

Sign up.  Make a careful note of the email address you use.  Ignore all the screens about linking your Facebook etc accounts.

Sync your MBNA, Lloyds or Amex-issued Amex card with the Foursquare account by going to this website.  You must use the same email address as in 1.

Go back to Foursquare and search for a random Tesco, Pizza Express etc.  Most stores will show the offer – if they don’t, search for another outlet.  You need to click on the text for the offer and you will see a special box flick up. Click ‘Load to Card’ and the offer is set up directly with Amex.

Repeat for each Amex card you have, with a new Foursquare account. It would be sensible to make a note of which Amex card and email address links to each account.

There is nothing to show in the shop when you make your purchases. The shop will never even know you are taking part in the promotion.

3-4 days after the relevant shop purchase hits your credit card, a cash credit will be placed on your Amex account.  For Amex-issued Amex cards, you should also receive a confirmation email within a few minutes of making your purchase.

For those that were wondering if Tesco fuel filling stations trigger the refund – they do. Just seen a £5 credit on my account.

  • Trevor says:

All my refunds have posted for 11 Amex £10 purchases in Tesco and 3 Amex £30 purchases in Argos (investigating further Argos and Primark options this evening). I used the Tesco gift cards to pay for the pre-order games, so together with a conditional spend voucher, I only effectively paid £32 for 18 games slips and 21.6k Avios, so 0.15p each! Can’t recall why, but I hadn’t actually loaded the Tesco offer to 1 Lloyds Amex card yet used it to pay. When I realised my mistake an hour later, I loaded the offer to use subsequently, yet the £5 has been refunded for the original purchase! So quick action after the fact can still earn you the statement credit with Lloyds, maybe cos they are so slow to work purchases and post to your statement in the first place. Can’t say this will always happen though to Lloyds and certainly can’t say with MBNA or Amex.

  • Robert says:

Just noticed in the terms that “Only one offer valid per Foursquare account”. This is a new terms over previous foursquare promos. That said I have used about 6 cards on my one forusquare accounts and am getting the credit for each of them, so obviously not enforced.

Also Tesco seems to be gone today. Maybe enrollment cap has been met?

    • Idrive says:

Yes maube capped met but the new t&c you quote is nonsense as amex advertises up to £55 discount on marketing email.

  • Lyssie says:

Do you have to use the card in the store through which you added the offer? I ask because only one of the Dundee Tescos is showing the £5 off £10 offer and I don’t want to mess up having a run at the bonus points through video games pre-orders…

    • TimS says:

No, it can be used in any Tesco branch. I used mine in different branches to the ones I used to add the offer in Foursquare.

      • idrive says:

is there a way to check which offers have been uploaded to a fs profile on a desktop, without logging via mobile?

        • Trevor says:

Yes, check your history of check-ins – assuming you checked in first, and wouldn’t check in without loading the offer. You can only check if an offer is loaded by trying to load it again from a device – that’s the only way to be sure. The other best way to be sure is to keep a record of what you’ve done. 5 offers across 11 cards? I definitely keep a record of what is loaded to what card. A little bit of admin can save a lot of time, effort. and confusion.

      • Lyssie says:

Thanks very much for confirming 🙂

  • Bon Jovi says:

Drat…just back from a business trip where I we ate at Zizzi’s….
5x Amex cards and a bill of near £200…I could have made a tidy sum on the side…if only I had a smartphone!

  • John Gallagher says:

Anyone had their Argos £10 credit post on their BA Amex card yet?
My Amex Gold Card credit has posted but my BA Amex card credit has not – both £30s were spent on the same day.
Just realised I’m missing a £10 credit on my wife’s supplementary Amex Gold Card – I take it as this is a different number to my Gold Card I should also get the credit for this?
(I made sure I checked-in and loaded the deal to all 3 cards prior to spending 3 x £31)

Any idea what has gone wrong / what I should do now?

    • Rob says:

I’ve had an Argos confirmation show up in Foursquare so I’ve no doubt the credit will turn up too.
