IHG Rewards Club, the Holiday Inn / Crowne Plaza / InterContinental scheme, has launched ‘IHG Minute Millionaire’.

This is a new competition which is only open to IHG members in the UK, Germany and Austria (rather odd choice!).

Each week until 5th July (five weeks in all) one person will win 1 million IHG Rewards Club points.  As that would let you check into the InterContinental Park Lane for 20 nights or the Amstel in Amsterdam (I reviewed the Amstel hotel last week) for 25 nights, it is pretty darn good.

InterContinental Amstel

This is how you play.

You need to visit the special website for the competition here.

You will be presented with images of different IHG rewards.  As well as hotel nights, there are lots of rubbish things which are very poor value for points and which I don’t talk about on this site (!).

You must put over 990,000 points worth of items in your basket within one minute.

You are allowed two attempts per week.

The winner will be drawn at random from everyone who completes the task.  It is not based on who is the quickest or who gets nearest to 1 million points.

It is easier than it looks.  Under the first tab ‘Ready, jet set, go’ are some very expensive flight redemption options.  You can easily get to 900,000 by selecting a few of these.  You can then pick up some smaller rewards to get yourself into the 990,000 – 1,000,000 points zone.

The game does not end when you have over 990,000 points.  You need to let the clock tick down to zero – your entry is then confirmed once you have filled in your details.

The odds of winning are not huge – although better than they would otherwise be if it was not restricted to just three countries.  However, with the prize potentially worth £5,000+, it is worth a quick go.

After facebooking/twitting the link, how do you get to the second attempt?

    • Rob says:

Good question. I THINK they just give you a 2nd entry automatically, I couldn’t see anything else.

  • JK says:

Great find, and a little bit of fun, so why not. It only takes 2 minutes.

When you say 2 attempts per week, do you mean you can enter the competition twice? i.e., complete it once, and then go and do it again.. Or do you mean 2 attempts to get your basket within range?

And should this then be repeated every week for all 5 weeks?

    Cheers,
    JK

    • Rob says:

I read it as two chances per week to hit the 990k-1m zone, with only one entry counting.

And, yes, it seems you need to repeat every week.

  • Kathy H says:

Only got one chance – but worth a try anyway.

  • TimS says:

Do you actually have to get between 990k & 1m?

It appears that as soon as you go over the 1m point mark you get the entry submission form appear.

    • Czechoslovakia says:

Actually cant see anywhere the stated 990k-1m points being needed. Even watched the tutorial video. Its not very clear if you need to spend over or exactly 1m. But it asks me “If I`m happy with my basket” – why?

    • Rob says:

I have double checked and you seem to be correct, I misread it.

      3. In their answer, reach a minimum of 990,000 IHGRC points within the one (1) minute timeframe.

So anything above 990k seems OK.

  • Oliver Bennett says:

I did it in 6 seconds..

  • Julie says:

How do you get your Ipad to let you play for your partners account, I’ve cleared history but that hasn’t worked?

  • James says:

    Congratulations!

You spent 1,000,000 IHG® Rewards Club points in 10 seconds.

    1 mil exactly 😛

Also I was invited to share on facebook, twitter etc for another go. Shared on FB but it won’t let me enter again.

  • Kathy H says:

    Second week now available.
