Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

Spend 2 x £25, get £25 back with Amex Summer Shopping Online

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Most British Airways American Express cardholders were emailed about this offer on Tuesday, but you can also take part if you have any other American Express card.

The first 24,000 people to register their American Express card via this site will receive a £25 statement credit when they spend £25 at TWO of the following retailers ONLINE:

Gap

Achica

Space.NK

Banana Republic

The White Company

Debenhams

Currys PC World (either website)

Virgin Wines

You need to make your transactions before August 24th.  The small print says that the charge should hit your American Express statement by this date, so in reality you need to order a few days before.

What is not clear is whether you can make two purchases at the same retailer.  The website implies that it should be two different retailers but it is not explicit.

You can register supplementary cards for this offer as well as main cards.

Code WELCOME2014 gets you £10 off a £50 spend at Achica at any point during 2014 if you were thinking of buying something there.

Be careful if you try to buy gift cards to qualify for this deal.  Debenhams sells gift cards online but you are taken to a third-party website to make your purchase.  This could mean that you do would not receive the credit as the payment will not be processed by Debenhams.  Similarly, currys.co.uk redirects to currysgiftcards.co.uk which is not a qualifying website.

However, in our comments section yesterday, TimS posted:  “Debenhams should be fine. When I bought Debenhams gift vouchers online for the recent statement credit it showed up as ‘Debenhams.com Southampton’.  So you never know ….

..and do we know if it possible to use this offer more than once, e.g. with 2 or 3 cards, as terms state something like “…may use offer once only per cardmember…”.

    • TimS says:

I assume it can be used once per card. The ‘once per cardmember’ clause just stops you buying from 4 retailers on the one card and expecting 2 credits.

  • Simon says:

I emailed Amex about how the FourSquare page suggests I can make 2 purchases at Debenhams and get £25 back, whilst the Terms and Conditions on the registration page suggests they have to be different retailers and asked which was correct.

Their reply is below and says there are 2 different offers! This makes no sense as the registration page from the FourSquare link takes you to the same page as in this story. I pointed this out and someone else replied, they backed up what the fist person said and told me if I didn’t get the £25 after I made 2 purchases at Debenhams to let him know and he’d apply the credit manually.

    Dear Simon

These are 2 different offers and both the offers are correct.

The UK Online Spend Stim offer states “When you make two separate transactions of £25 or more on your registered American Express Card at any two of the participating online merchants from 22 July to 24 August 2014, you will receive a £25 statement credit.”

In other words, once you have registered your Card you must spend £25 or more at ‘Merchant A’ and then £25 or more at ‘Merchant B’ during the offer period in order to receive the statement credit. Two transactions of £25 or more at the same Merchant will not qualify for the offer.

The Foursquare offer states “Debenhams : Spend £50, get £25” i.e. you have to spend two lots of £25 or more at Debenhams to get a statement credit of £25.

I see that as of today your Card is not enrolled for Debenhams (Foursquare) offer. You may wish to enrol your Card for this offer.

    • squills says:

Yep but I tried to register a second time using the 4Square site & I get

      Sorry
Oops, our records show that you’ve already enrolled for this offer. We limit the number of times that a Cardmember can enroll for each offer.

As it happens I mistakenly used my Gold card for a second Debs purchase over £25 in the night (pair of leather boots for my son knocked down from £90 to £24 plus another 10% off plus free delivery 😉 ) – but I haven’t got the statement credit. Might appeal…

  • Simon says:

Thanks Squills, I did this last year but I’ve got 2 new AMEX cards since then.

  • Rob says:

10 per cent back at Waitrose would be worth a fortune to us!

  • Magarathea says:

I’m catching up with this offer at the moment as I have been away.
Does anyone know definitively if gift cards bought on the PC World and the Currys web sites count with this offer. Also, would 1 purchase at PC World and 1 at Currys trigger the £25 Amex credit as these 2 web sites are listed separately? Sorry to repeat these question if they have already been covered.

    • squills says:

From what I’ve seen, the PCW/ Currys giftcards don’t count, nor do the Debs giftcards from their sister site (the ether ones with automatic free postage). But physical Debs giftcards from their main site do count, no problem, £30+ achieves free delivery..

    • squills says:

Oh sorry – PCW & Currys are treated as separate outlets by Amex.

  • Aoife says:

    Hi Robert,

Is this deal still active do you know?

    Thanks

  • Akkers says:

Has anyone got an email from Amex saying the following:

“Time’s running out to save on your online shopping.

You’re half way to receiving a £25 statement credit. If you haven’t already, spend another £25 or more with your registered American Express® Card at another of the below participating merchants until 24 August 2014 to receive a £25 statement credit*. Shopping online is so simple, you could even spend and save during your lunch break.”

Seems a bit weird as I haven’t made my first transaction.

  • mark says:

Yes I have received the same email for cards that have had no spend as yet. Very odd

I have also now spent the required minimum at 2 of the online shops and am awaiting my statement rebate.
