Lufthansa is running a competition to promote the new website and app for their JetFriends childrens club.  There is an iPad up for grabs as the main prize.  The competition is UK-only so you have a decent chance of winning.

About JetFriends

If you are in your 40’s and had parents wealthy enough to pay the cost of flights in the 1970’s and 1980’s, you may remember Junior Jet Club.  This was the last time that British Airways tried seriously to build a long term relationship with young flyers.

Fast forward 30 years, and Lufthansa is the best European airline when it comes to having a dedicated club for children.  Their JetFriends scheme has been running for many years as part of the Miles & More programme.

JetFriends app

Lufthansa has just launched a brand new JetFriends website at www.jetfriends.com.

It is split into two areas – a part for children aged 2-10 with educational games and an interactive sticker album, and an older section for 11-17 year olds which allows them to explore the concept of freedom and travel.  Older kids can complete My JetWorld with online pins to show where they have visited, as well as uploading photographs and discussing their experiences.

Enrolling your kids (aged 2-17) for JetFriends has another advantage.  Their membership card doubles as a Miles & More membership card.  This allows your children to collect miles when flying on Lufthansa and other Star Alliance airlines.  These miles do not expire as long as they remain members of JetFriends which is an advantage over a standard Miles & More account.

As well as relaunching jetfriends.com, Lufthansa has also launched the JetFriends app for smartphones and tablets.  Aimed specifically at 3 to 6 year olds, it answers a lot of the questions that children have about flying.  Who wears a uniform at the airport?  What happens when you pass through security?

I am currently testing it out with my 3-year old and will let you know how he goes on!  You can download the JetFriends app for iOS at the App Store via this link and from Google Play for Android via this link.

Entering the competition requires a little bit of thinking.  You need to think of something funny that your child said to you – just a one-liner.

You can enter by visiting this website here.  The best quotes will be published on the JetFriends website.

The person who submits the best quote will win an iPad.  Five runners-up with receive a goodie bag full of items for the beach.

The closing date is not until September 15th, but it is worth entering now because you will almost certainly forget!  Lufthansa will be advertising the competition on the site for the next few days.

You can also sign up your children for a free JetFriends membership via the same link.

Proud JJC member here. Parental unit threw out logbook years ago (cue Xmas-level family “words”) but the wings are still around. Cockpit visits were the BEST (including once for a landing).

  • squills says:

My son got a cockpit visit a while back on his birthday (January 2013). I thought they’d be a thing of the past after 9/11 but not necessarily the case 😉

      In flight?

My son has had many a cockpit visit once on the ground at destination as a result of us handing in his logbook. Jet2 even mentioned his name on the PA inviting him up, which was a nice touch.

In flight. Got a round of applause from the travellers as well. BA.

I still have my 25k and 50k mile certificates from Junior Jet Club 🙂 As for its long term value; I have my gold exec club card too…

  • Cosmo74 says:

I was in the Junior Jet Club too – was gutted when I lost my logbook. I seem to recall that the captain assigned to me in my logbook was a Concorde pilot, which was very exciting at the time. I used to love going up to the cockpit to get my logbook filled out, and seem to recall that even other airlines would fill it out as well.

I’m not only a Junior Jet Club member (retired), but a proud owner of a “We’ll take more care of you” 7″ single.

  • Susan says:

But was Raffles ever in the Club – his loyal fans deserve to know.

    • Rob says:

No. My Dad had an average professional job, my Mum never worked after having kids ( as was the 1970s way) so there was no chance we could afford to fly anywhere.

Height of sophistication 30 years ago was a camping holiday in France via ferry and even that was too upmarket for my family.
