  Some good deals to be had here – http://www.usairways.com/en-US/Resources/_downloads/dividendmiles/oneworldawardtravel.pdf shows it’s 90k miles Europe to SE Asia. I believe the cost of buying 50k miles (i.e. 100k with bonus) is in the region of £1200.

  You need your account to be open for 12 days before you can buy US Airways miles so if you think you might take advantage of this offer it’s worth opening an account now.

  I’ve been a buyer of these miles (at this price) in the past but not this time. As you mention Raffles there’s almost certainly a devaluation coming and if you don’t have an upcoming use for the miles this may not be as good an offer as it looks. US has been running these 100% bonus a lot recently (and interspersing them with good bonuses for sharing miles), add that to the fact that OneMileAtaTime posted about a targeted offer of 3x Elite Qualifying Miles for US Airways flyers and you can just smell the impending ‘enhancements’ that are on their way.

  I currently have 80,000 AA miles and would like to get to 105,000 for 2 Cathay one-way redemptions in business to the far east.

  So I’m praying for an SPG bonus on their Amex card some time soon (hopefully November?), I think that would get me the 25,000 I need. Card fee I think is £75.

  Fingers crossed the devaluation happens a few months into 2015 at the earliest!

    There might be an AA miles sale soon too. I think the last one ended 31st December last year so it’s been a while.

  US Air have a promotion like this ongoing more often that they do not. For anyone who has tried to find a good seat upfront, and knows the difficulty often impossibility of the task, it becomes hard not to be cynical and consider even if they sold them at an even softer discount, whether it is really any use at all in purchasing these points. It might be yet more cynical to see that its commercially very worthwhile for a programme to keep selling for income generation. Not a bad business model.
