Save £6 on Heathrow Express tickets (if you get up early)

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

Heathrow Express is offering a discount of £6 on an Express (ie Standard) Class one-way ticket throughout October.  This brings the price down from £21 to ‘just’ £15.

There is also a £5 discount on a return Express Class ticket, taking the price down to ‘just’ £29.

There are two conditions with this promotion:

You must book at least seven days in advance

Only 500 discounted tickets will be sold per day with the total resetting at midnight

You must book your ticket during October although you can travel at any time in the next three months

If you want to buy a ticket at this price you should therefore try to do it in the morning.

The Heathrow Express discount code you need is OFFER15.  This only works at the main Heathrow Express website.

It does NOT work at the version of the website which gives Avios points although you will still be able to collect Heathrow Rewards points via the main website.

Once this offer has expired, the cheapest deal remaining will be the 12% MasterCard discount outlined here.  This deal runs until 31st January.

Full details of this ‘£6 off’ promotion can be found here.

Just worked for me – thanks!

What’s wrong with the Tube? Ok, it’s not as fast, but it’s far cheaper..

    • Rob says:

It is a trade off between the value of your time, comfort and destination. As we live close to a Piccadilly line station then the tube trumps the HEx. If I was nearer Paddington or on a direct tube connection from Paddington then I might be swung. The difference is £10 with this promo (plus a tube ticket from Paddington to wherever you need).

If there’s two or more travelling UberX is less than £40 from Central London to LHR.

If you use the HEX and have an annual travelcard (TFL or rail in the old Network South East area) your ticket should be labelled ‘Gold Card’ (those on Oyster get a Gold Record Card). This gets you 33% off rail in the South East for up to 4 people (including the HEX) – this actually puts the HEX at a price I’m willing to pay.

The Network Railcard also gives 33% off but I believe can’t be used in the morning peak Mon-Fri, but for those who can’t get a Network Gold card is worth looking at.

The usual other railcards also apply such as 16-25, Senior, Armed Forces, etc.

If you have a Gold/Railcard they won’t let you buy the tickets from their own machines (as they’re awkward like that) but at Paddington you can buy them from the National Rail (First Great Western) ticket machines, buy them online from your favourite train booking site (e.g. eastcoast.co.uk to get rewards points) and collect from FGW machines at Paddington.

If you’re starting at Heathrow the only option to get the railcard discounts is to use the ticket office counter (that option is also available at Paddington).

So from my office at Victoria the quickest tube journey to T5 is 49 mins (I’ve timed it). Using HEX I once managed to do it in 39 mins, but just scraped on as the doors closed.

If I’d just missed that HEX then my journey would have been 54 mins.
So HEX is between 10 mins faster and 5 mins slower. And much more expensive.

In my last team I wouldn’t approve expenses for HEX use as there was no business benefit at all.

I once got from City Airport to my old Wapping flat in 18 minutes. That is not 18 minutes from getting in the taxi – that is 18 minutes from the aircraft door!

    Hi Raffles,

I was just wondering have you received any more voucher points for RSH fantasy F1 after july? I think until october there should have been 3 payments made to us but I have only received one 500 points, what about you? or have you got any update for us on this?

    Best wishes
    Haz

    • Rob says:

I was pondering that today when I got the latest performance email. Nope, haven’t had any drop in since the Summer. They owe me for the Fantasy Golf now as well!

The game is still ticking along OK though so I have no doubt that whatever is due will turn up.

Can get the HX off peak for £13.80 with railcard discount (network gold card). Just a shame you can’t use delay repay vouchers on HX. With winter coming there us always a steady supply of delay repay vouchers arriving!

Points will come – can’t exactly expect RSH to volunteer it 😉

Should get a few quid 😉
