Reminder: IHG Winter Sale bookable until midnight on Saturday, rooms from £29

Here is a quick reminder that the 48-hour IHG Rewards Club sale is still running until the end of Saturday. This year over 600 hotels in Europe are taking part.

The sale covers the period from December 15th to February 14th.

As you can see from this page on the IHG website, the list of participating hotels is priced from £29 to £169.

IHG sale

The deals are not the best I have ever seen. The UK £29 list only comprises Holiday Inn Express hotels, albeit £29 for a room and free breakfast is not bad. The first semi-decent London hotel is Holiday Inn Kensington at a respectable £49.

The Holiday Inn Stratford I used to get in the sales for £20 is now £89 – close to its normal price in the dead season. The HI Wembley is a joke at £89 given that it is just 10,000 points to redeem.

If you want a luxury break, the £169 level is more interesting. InterContinental Park Lane is there, as the IC Paris Le Grand – a Valentine break may be possible.

The clock on the sale website is counting down so take a look now if you will need a hotel in the next couple of months.

I managed to find one Holiday Inn (not Express) for £29 – so I’m off to Chester A56 for a night just before Christmas to complete my Into the Nights challenge. What a treat…

    • David L says:

Will these nights count as qualifying nights though? Thought there was some rule about a qualifying rate could be no less than 70% of flexible rate…

    • Danny says:

FYI. .. that hotel is a dump but I’m sure you’ll love Chester

      • James Ward says:

        My expectations are not high!

        • mister.c. says:

I think thats the old Forte hotel?

Stayed there before, old fashioned, not in the best of nick. But it was clean and cheap.
Just spend more time in Chester!

  • Brian says:

When you book, you get a page saying ‘You will earn … points for this booking’. Take a screen shot of this so that, if IHG post the stay as non-qualifying, you can take it up with them.

For some reason, the UK hotels all quote prices with breakfast. So the HI Kensington is £59 including breakfast. I cannot seem to be able to get a no-breakfast rate, not that it’s a problem. Both the Crowne Plaza Kensington and the Hotel Indigo Kensington are £89 (or £99 inc. breakfast) – both good hotels and decent value at that price.

    • Kai says:

Yes I noticed this as well. On 30th there were ex-breakfast rates available still, but then suddenly all availability was pulled off.

    • Rob says:

Odd. HI Kensington was definitely there at £49 for January yesterday.

  • plastikman says:

It’s part of the HIex branding, every room gets a free breakfast. My wife is an IHG ‘ee so we avail of the stupendous employee rates they offer instead!

    • Kipto says:

When searching for hotels yesterday I found that the prices via the app were more expensive than via ihg’s website. Worth looking at both prices.

    • Brian says:

No, it has nothing to do with the HiEX branding – the same is true of ALL brands in London. Not sure about elsewhere in the UK – haven’t checked.

  • Geri J. says:

Either they are all sold out or this is a bogus promotion. I’ve tried several hotels on the list only to be told “there is nothing available” for your dates, and then the site bounces me to the normal rate. Oh well…

    • N says:

What dates are you trying? I can find loads at £29 for the Saturday after Christmas.

      • Geri J. says:

Dec. 4 to Dec. 18. Tried any combo in the UK, but got nada.

        • Cv3v says:

“The sale covers the period from December 16th to February 14th.”

          • Brian says:

Indeed. Amazing how people just can’t read the T&Cs…

          • Geri J. says:

Thank you to the Cv3v who noted the dates for me. Since I’m traveling and limited to my iPhone screen things can get missed. (Brian — No need to be nasty. We all have brain farts from time to time.)

  • C says:

I had a similar experience, the rates on the IHG app are more expensive than the website. I tried calling them direct and was told that the flash sale rates are not eligible for the into the nights promotion. However, the customer rep I spoke to was not very clued up. Take a print screen of the booking. The 21 day saver rates are not much more expensive.
Anyone know what the restrictions are on the 2 free nights? Presumably preferable to 50000 points if you are going to stay at an intercontinental.

    • Rob says:

IHG is being vague, but it seems the only restriction is that they must be used in 2015 – standard reward availability will be used for them.
