You may remember an article I wrote a month ago where Hilton HHonors had opened up a public vote about what it should offer as its November to January promotion.

The public has spoken.  Hilton HHonors is offering double points on all stays (from your 2nd stay) during November, December and January in a promotion called ‘Double Up’.

Double points only applies to the base points earned.  It does not apply to any Gold or Diamond status bonuses or to the additional points you earn if you choose ‘points and points’ rather than ‘points and miles’ as your earning preference.

You need to register to take part.  The registration page is here.

There is a long list of hotels which are not taking part in this offer although the majority are in the USA.  The only UK properties not taking part are The Waldorf Hilton and The Trafalgar in London and, bizarrely, the Hilton Garden Inn in Aberdeen!  The only other European opt-outs are Bonn and Schiphol.

You will only earn double points from your second stay during the promotional period.  Based on my reading of the rules, this is your 2nd stay at a participating hotel.  This means that, if your first stay during the period is at a hotel which is on the non-participating list, it does not count as your non-earning first stay.  You need to have a wasted stay at a hotel which is participating in the promotion.

This promotion will combine with the current generous airline promotions which are currently runningYou can earn extra Avios unti 30th November via this deal, earn extra Virgin Flying Club miles until 30th November via this deal or earn extra Lufthansa Miles & More miles until 15th December via this deal.

Naturally the Millenium Hilton NY (where I shall shortly be spending tons of money) is not participating :/

  • where2travel says:

These Hilton promotions always seem to have a habit of coming out part way through the promotion period. I don’t think I’ve received an email about this one yet and we’re part-way through November which means my three Hilton stays so far this month won’t count as I won’t have registered until now.

Having said that. it’s nice it overlaps with the Virgin miles promotion.

    • Think Square says:

So it’s not just me who Hilton neglect to tell? I suggest you write to HH to complain about your three missed stays. Nothing to lose.

Luckily I haven’t had any Hilton stays yet this month, but I do tonight and Wednesday, so this is a very timely post for me. Thanks Rob!

OOT but cleartrip.ae is offering a first-night free offer to all hotel bookings made today. Booked a 4 night stay at Doubletree Islington for £185.

Anybody used this cleartrip site before? Certainly is a good deal and gets me nearly 100GBP off a Las Vegas hotel for next July…

    Slightly Off Topic

I stayed with Hilton (Double Tree London Hyde Park) after the Quadruple HH points and Triple Avios points. I had changed my Iberia points (1.5 x) to BAEC Avios to get the triple points. They’ve not updated this, and have issued Iberian Points rather than BAEC. I’ve written to them asking them to change this.

Do you think I’ll have any joy?

    Thanks,
    Peter

    • Rob says:

When did you change it? I think it has to be done before check-out with Hilton.

      • taysump says:

I’d seen the offer on here and changed before check in.

        Thanks,
        Peter

      • Alan says:

I’m afraid that doesn’t help – for *miles* earning they forever stick with your preferred programme at the time of booking unless you specifically ask the hotel to change it for you. When I want to be certain of the miles correctly posting I inform them at check-in and then re-confirm they’ve got the correct programme at check-out. For points+points vs points+miles earning the situation is quite different – you can change this on the Hilton website any time up to 23:59 Mountain Standard Time on the day of check-out and they’ll honour your setting when the points post to your account. I know the ins and outs of this well after a Route 66 trip where I was changing earning preferences and mileage programmes almost every day due to the varying earnings for different brands 😀

          Thanks Alan (and Raffles above),

Oh, well. You can’t win them all. This way I’ll have earned with Iberia – so I’ll be able to benefit from the next round of discounts 😉

*sings* “always look on the bright side of life” *whistles*

  • Danny says:

The double points bonus posted for me even before the basic points had been confirmed for that stay (checked out on Friday last week).. in addition to my bonus Avios. 🙂

  • Peter says:

    Massively OT sorry.
I booked car hire with Hertz using a bonus Avios code for Iberia at the beginning on October. The bonus did not post to my account only the standard. After 3 attempts Hertz (Spanish Hertz.es) finally replied to my request and said that they had posted my points (ie the standard) and any bonus was from Iberia.
The Iberia website however directs you to Hertz for any Avios query. Very annoying as there is 3000 Avios I’m missing. Anyone had this problem before and/or know how to deal with it/ who to contact? Thank you.
