The IHG (Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental) 48-hour Winter sale is back

IHG – owner of Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Crowne Plaza, InterContinental etc – has brought back the 48-hour Winter Sale that it originally ran earlier in the month.  Booking is now open.

Over 600 hotels in Europe are taking part.  This time the start date has been pushed back by 24 hours – you can now book from December 16th – but the end date is the same at February 14th.

As you can see from this page on the IHG website, the list of participating hotels is priced from £29 to £169.

As far as I can tell, the list appears identical to the list of hotels who took part a couple of weeks ago.

The UK £29 list only comprises Holiday Inn Express hotels. The first semi-decent London hotel I know personally is Holiday Inn Kensington at £49 – this is a pretty good deal as it is outside Gloucester Road tube station and 5 minutes walk from the South Kensington museums.

Holiday Inn London Bloomsbury and Holiday Inn London Regents Park, both £49, also have decent reputations but I have never been inside either. At this price you can’t really go wrong.

On the other hand, the Holiday Inn Stratford I used to get for £20 in the sale is £89 – close to its normal price in the dead season.  The Holiday Inn Wembley is not worth £89 given that it is only 10,000 IHG points to redeem.

If you want a luxury break, the £169 level looks interesting. InterContinental London Park Lane is there, as is InterContinental Paris Le Grand – a Valentine break may be possible.

The sale runs until midnight on Saturday 29th so you have just a few hours to book.

These rooms are not explicitly blocked from earning IHG Rewards Club points and stay credit, or counting for Into The Nights.  If your night costs less than 70% of the Best Flexible Rate for that night, your points are at risk though.  This is the threshold that hotels are meant to use when deciding whether to give points although some properties ignore it.

First time round, you could add breakfast for a flat £10 per room – a great deal. InterContinental properties will add £30. In Europe it was even cheaper at €10 per room. This is not specifically mentioned this time but some properties may offer it.

As always, if the sale has a property in a place you need to be, you’ve got a bargain.  I recommend you click here, take a look and decide for yourself.

Typical… Work Xmas party is 4 days earlier than the start date; HI Kensington would’ve been a bargain!

    • Brian says:

You should check the Accor sale – I believe it ends today. I got the Mercure Kensington for 63 pounds including breakfast, and that’s just down the road from the HI Kensington.

Nothing spectacular. Was hoping Hull would have something but no.
Did manage to get a £29 Sunday night in Lincoln though. About the same distance so an easy drive and it will complete my “Into The Nights” promo.

    • gnarlyoldgoatdude says:

Careful…is it at <70% of the Best Flexible Rate?

      • Scott says:

£69.99 for the best flexible rate so looks like it’s OK unless it’s too early and my maths sucks today 😉

  • Irons1980 says:

Done very well – 2 nights @ IC Moscow for under £100 a night (7,250 RUB inc. tax vs. 10,000 + tax for Ambassador breakfast rate)… not to shabby. Can’t see the breakfast benefit thought… although it’s 1,770 inc. tax per day, so I am still quids in. Just hope the points post and I get my ambassador benefits!

    • Rob says:

Perhaps that is not back this time? It was part of the first round.

      • Brian says:

It’s there. You just have to select the breakfast rate. In the UK, it’s just 10 pounds more, as you say.

        • Irons1980 says:

Right – the breakfast flash sale rate is the only 100 Rubles less than buying breakfast at the hotel (1600 rubles vs. 1700 rubles)… a little saving, but I am chasing them to sort it as when i clicked on the sale link above, it only gave the rates for the flash room only sale and nothing else. However, it’s unfair none the less…

  • Alan Coltman says:

App rates not showing flash sale? Tried all day for Edinburgh Airport H I Exp at £39 but showing at £73. However full website shows flash sale rate. Need the App booking for the into the nights.

    • Rob says:

Actually there was a note, now I remember it, in a press release I was sent saying that the app would not have the offers.

  • Daz says:

Just booked the IC Madrid for 3 people for £142.00 inc breakfast and used some of the point from my “In to the nights” promo to get Ambassador status.

    Anyone been to Madrid then?????

    • Rob says:

It’s an odd one, I have never been totally sold on it – but clearly a massive improvement on the UK in December!
