Louis Vuitton lands at Heathrow Terminal 5

Back in August I wrote about ‘the luxury retail project’ – the plan to rebuild much of the south area of Terminal 5 as a destination for luxury shopping brands.

Of all the stores that will be moving into this new area, the coup was getting Louis Vuitton.  Despite its blingy image, Louis Vuitton historically does not ‘do’ sales, it does not ‘do’ discounting and it is does not ‘do’ duty free in Europe – until now.

The Louis Vuitton store at Heathrow finally opened yesterday.

I was told that it was to be a relatively modest store focussing on travel goods.  Since it turns out to be 301 sq m, twice as big as my house, that seems unlikely.

I couldn’t get down there to see it, but according to Heathrow:

The Louis Vuitton Heathrow store is flanked by an articulated series of metallic striped glass ‘fins’ finished in bronzed anodized aluminum. On the entire perimeter of the façade are a sequence of hanging transparent units hung by Louis Vuitton belts, recalling the artisan heritage of the Maison, and allowing visibility straight into the store.

Inside, a considered open space makes the store’s offering of leather goods, women’s ready to wear and shoes, accessories, sunglasses, fine jewellery and watches easy to navigate. Look up to see 80% of ceiling surface crafted from suspended aluminum blades ranging from a gold oak brushed veneer to others clad in hand crafted bronze and gold wallpaper. A feeling of warmth is felt throughout, communicated by sumptuous beige leathers, polished plaster in light gold, smoked teakwood and antique brass metalwork.

So now you know!

A tesco would have been more useful

    • Alan says:

Lol agreed! Sadly I find the admin posts of more interest than this news 😀 I aim to go straight to the lounge, with only Dixons or World Duty Free if there are Amex/Heathrow Rewards offers on 😛

  • JQ says:

    HAL doesn’t do useful.

  • Lloyd says:

Good to see another shop for the people…

    • Rob says:

The average LV handbag buyer is actually a secretary buying a £500 bottom end bag. The genuinely wealthy tend to avoid it.

      • Lloyd says:

Each to their own I guess, I still have my wallet bought from Mister Minit for a fiver when I was at school. My father in law keeps super gluing his wallet back together, though less said of the time when he put £200 in it immediately afterwards and found later that day that he couldnt get the money out having just ordered a round of drinks at a bar…

        • Adam W says:

My dog ensures that I purchase a new wallet every couple of weeks, so not worth spending more than a fiver on it!

      • Waribai says:

Exactly!. Hence, why you will not be seeing me and my family in there this Friday 🙂

  • Clive J says:

I will be at T5 on Sunday and may take a look inside; it will help me get acclimatised for the excesses of Vegas 🙂

    • @mkcol says:

And I’ll be there on Tuesday.
Somewhere else to bodyswerve….other than maybe have a nose at the decoration.

  • Stu says:

I find most of the T5 shops quite boring. They seem to assume because someone is flying somewhere they’ll spend £500 on a handbag. Give me a good old WH Smith and a Boots any day! 🙂

    • Chris says:

@Stu Fly try flying ex Birmingham you can realise your shopping dreams (from memory) I think there is even a JD Sports for the – the BHX customer clearly has different pockets to those out of T5… Though having flown out of T4 a lot this year hardly noticed any shops from fast track to QR lounge.

  • Mark says:

It opened on Saturday and had them reserve 2 bags for me as I was off to ZRH on Sunday.

Got there, made the purchase (btw, the lounge isn’t the only place they offer complimentay Champagne) only to discover that they “as a company have decided not to participate in the Heathrow Rewards scheme.

    • KageyWorld says:

Mark- How were prices compared to retail shops in UK, USA or France? Tax free?? And as far as previous comments quoting £500 bags – HA !! Never found an LV BAG at that price. Hell, my wallets are 350.

      • Mark says:

The prices are exactly the same as all UK stores. VAT free prices are only available if flying outside of the EU.

Yep, you could maybe get one for £500 10 years ago but the starting price now is around £800

        • KageyWorld says:

Recently purchased the men’s District, a granite messenger bag, for £685 – a better price than in the USA, mind you.
