Maximise your Avios, air miles and hotel points

A nice little competition starts on Monday 19th – potentially worth £4,000+

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

I don’t need to hype this up at all. The prize speaks for itself.

The good people at Qatar Airways have given me two business class flights to (just about) anywhere in the world to give away to a Head for Points reader.

You and a friend could soon be heading off to, say, Australia, in the impressive business class seats above.  This is the product used on the Boeing 787, A380 and A350 XWB aircraft.  Even in the current Qatar Airways sale you wouldn’t get much change from £5,000.

The competition will launch a week on Monday (19th) so keep an eye out.  This is a week later than the earlier advertised date of Monday 12th.

    I will not be entering.

I had the worst experience I’ve ever had with an airline with Qatar. I was flying first class (miles redemption) to Africa via Doha. The incoming flight to Doha (operated by Qatar) was late, and I missed my connection to JRO. Not to worry, I thought, Qatar is a 5-star good airline. They refused me a hotel, and asked me to sleep on the floor of the airport (fortunately the business class lounge), but their water feature in the lounge kept me up all night.

In retrospect I should have just paid and booked for my own hotel and claimed it off Qatar later. But it’s put me off flying Qatar again for life. I did complain, but all I got was a perfunctory apology and an offer of 5000 q miles (which I don’t collect). Pathetic.

Had an excellent trip with the family BKK-DOH-LHR in C on Qatar. From DOH-LHR we were on the all business class a340 (40 seats only) I think there were less than 10 pax on the whole flight and nearly as many flgiht attendants! Excellent flight and service.
However, it does seem from your comment and other stories on FT that when things go wrong their customer service is not up to much. I guess you have to keep your fingers crossed that it all goes well!

I am currently in Thailand having flown here from Munich with Qatar. 787 to Doha was amazing. ‘Only’ the 777 to Bangkok, but it seems that I have the A380 for the return leg to Doha (and the 787 again to Munich). Must say I have been impressed by the onboard product and service. I don’t find the lounge in Doha to be special – it’s huge and has lots of facilities, but it is completely lacking in any kind of ‘atmosphere’ or ‘soul’. Still, Qatar has much to recommend it. Perhaps, as Waribai says, you just need everything to go well and thus have no need for their customer service (or lack thereof).
One good thing is that the flights to and from BKK are getting me 560 Tierpoints and only cost 1600 Euros! :))
Still, the fewer people who enter, the better my chances of winning are!

Another excellent competition to look forward to.

  • Rob says:

Ok, minor delay. Qatar Airways have asked me to postpone the launch by a week. It will now launch on the 19th. Sorry for the delay.

  • James67 says:

Great prize Rob, but what’s the point of keeping it going for a month? Can overseas resident readers not simply enter and take the prize from UK if they win?

    • Rob says:

Qatar wanted it to run for a month and, with no other competitions lined up, it was ok by me. HFP gets 110,000 unique visitors a month and they want exposure to as many as possible, not unreasonably.

As the UK office is arranging and funding it, they want it aimed at the UK market.

Yep another great prize. Thanks Rob!

I guess you won’t be promoting this one the BA FT forum? 🙂

  • James67 says:

Thanks, got it, hat is a huge number of unique visitors though so I hope one of our regulars wins. Perhaps you can use the extra week to persuade Qatar to let a solo traveller winner to take two separate return flights as opposed to a pair of tickets as that could be even more headline grabbing for them. QR seem big on delays though…delayed flights, delayed aircraft deliveries and now delayed competitions!

  • Wesley says:

Fantastic and generous. Thanks Qatar and thanks Rob. 2 returns to Australia for me please!

  • Andy says:

    Wow, what a prize 🙂
