I have run occasional articles on Head for Points offering sign-up deals for GetTaxi / Gett (£10), Uber (£10) and Hailo (nothing at present).

I thought it was about time to look at Kabbee as well.  Please note that I have never used Kabbee so I am not personally recommending these services.  I do use Uber, Gett (was GetTaxi) and Hailo on a regular basis and am very happy with them.

£5 Kabbee sign-up code – valid until the end of December 2015

Whilst Uber, Gett and Hailo do a great job of finding you a vehicle in Central London, they are less useful in the suburbs.

Kabbee works with 70 individual minicab firms across London, giving total access to 10,000 vehicles.  The navigation system is the same as Uber or Gett, allowing you to track your car as it approaches.

The iOS app is here, the Android app is here.  It is also available for Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone 8.  If you don’t have a smartphone, you can also create an account and book via their website, just like the old days.

Kabbee discount code [deleted as now expired] will give you a £5 bonus in your account when you register via the app or the website.  This code is valid until 30th November 2015 and is exclusive to Head for Points.

Kabbee is quite tough on its rules and the codes expire after two weeks after registering them.  The minimum ride to use the bonus is £10.01.  You will be told your fare before you confirm your booking so you can be certain that the ride is over £10.01 before ordering the car.

Kabbee has some particularly attractive fixed price deals for London airport trips which are worth a look.

I don’t agree with your point about Uber being less useful in the suburbs. I think it is more useful in the suburbs. Kabbee and Uber use black cabs – this is important in Central London as the cabs can use the bus lanes and the drivers know the back routes to avoid traffic. Every time I use Uber in Central London, we get stuck in traffic. Where Uber is great, is travelling from Central London to the suburbs or within the suburbs. It is much cheaper and the bus lane issue is less important. I travel a lot around Putney and Richmond areas and Uber is fantastic. The drivers also tell me they prefer working in these areas. There are always plenty of Uber vehicles in these areas too.

I guess it depends on the suburb. Very rarely see any uber available in my suburb during the day. They do tend to pop up late at night though. Incidentally, I just tried a dummy booking with Addison Lee. I couldn’t see any place to enter a discount code though. Do you need to sign up with an account first?

      • Rich says:

Just found it, the option to enter Promo Code is on the screen after you enter your CVV number for the paying card.

… However the quote it gave me for a regular journey I take was extortionate, in fact it was more than double the UberX usual cost, which almost renders the £10 discount of no value.

        • Waribai says:

Yes, short journeys of about a mile are working out at £11-£13

        • Rob says:

Addison Lee is not the cheapest. However, you cannot compare it to UberX – that is entirely unfair. AddLee will send you a proper car or people carrier with a ‘suit and tie’ driver. They sit somewhere inbetween UberExec and whatever they call the people carrier service!

  • Paul says:

“Kabbee and Uber use black cabs”… umm… Uber doesn’t, do you mean Hailo?

    • Rich says:

I thought Uber do black cabs as well? The ‘taxi’ option on the app? I’ve not used it before because UberX fares are usually a fair bit lower than a metered cab.

      • Rob says:

They are starting to do it but – as 90% of cabbies hate Uber – they seem to be struggling to get a lot to sign up. GetTaxi is currently showing the best growth because a lot of drivers left Hailo when they introduced Mercedes cars alongside black cabs.

I used to find it very hit and miss to get a vehicle via GetTaxi but I can now generally get someone to pick up a job 90% of the time.

    • Ian H says:

Kabbee don’t use black cabs either. They’re all minicabs.

    • Rob says:

Uber does have black cabs in London now as well as cars

  • Rich says:

Anyone know where to enter the promo code on the Addison Lee app? Can’t seem to find anywhere to enter it.
Unless it’s only once you go through an actual booking?

  • Andrew S says:

Ahhh driving in London for the first time for years last night and cut up by a peop carrier labelled Addison Lee – i thought it was an estate agent. Thanks for putting me straight.
