  I don’t agree with your point about Uber being less useful in the suburbs. I think it is more useful in the suburbs. Kabbee and Uber use black cabs – this is important in Central London as the cabs can use the bus lanes and the drivers know the back routes to avoid traffic. Every time I use Uber in Central London, we get stuck in traffic. Where Uber is great, is travelling from Central London to the suburbs or within the suburbs. It is much cheaper and the bus lane issue is less important. I travel a lot around Putney and Richmond areas and Uber is fantastic. The drivers also tell me they prefer working in these areas. There are always plenty of Uber vehicles in these areas too.

    I guess it depends on the suburb. Very rarely see any uber available in my suburb during the day. They do tend to pop up late at night though. Incidentally, I just tried a dummy booking with Addison Lee. I couldn’t see any place to enter a discount code though. Do you need to sign up with an account first?

      Just found it, the option to enter Promo Code is on the screen after you enter your CVV number for the paying card.

      … However the quote it gave me for a regular journey I take was extortionate, in fact it was more than double the UberX usual cost, which almost renders the £10 discount of no value.

        Yes, short journeys of about a mile are working out at £11-£13

        Addison Lee is not the cheapest. However, you cannot compare it to UberX – that is entirely unfair. AddLee will send you a proper car or people carrier with a ‘suit and tie’ driver. They sit somewhere inbetween UberExec and whatever they call the people carrier service!

    I thought Uber do black cabs as well? The ‘taxi’ option on the app? I’ve not used it before because UberX fares are usually a fair bit lower than a metered cab.

      They are starting to do it but – as 90% of cabbies hate Uber – they seem to be struggling to get a lot to sign up. GetTaxi is currently showing the best growth because a lot of drivers left Hailo when they introduced Mercedes cars alongside black cabs.

      I used to find it very hit and miss to get a vehicle via GetTaxi but I can now generally get someone to pick up a job 90% of the time.

    Kabbee don’t use black cabs either. They’re all minicabs.

  Anyone know where to enter the promo code on the Addison Lee app? Can’t seem to find anywhere to enter it.
  Unless it’s only once you go through an actual booking?

  Ahhh driving in London for the first time for years last night and cut up by a peop carrier labelled Addison Lee – i thought it was an estate agent. Thanks for putting me straight.
