Back in December I wrote about the Marriott MegaBonus promotion which runs from February 1st to April 30th.

There are several versions of this offer but the most common is 2,500 bonus points per stay, starting with your second stay.

This is not a terrible deal – 2,500 Marriott Rewards points are worth £12.50 or so – but if you only have occasional Marriott stays you may end up with points which are orphaned.  You cannot, for example, top them up with American Express Membership Rewards points unlike Hilton, Starwood or Club Carlson.  There is a Marriott credit card but the earning rate is a pitiful 1 point per £1.

Marriott MegaBonus

There is an alternative!

Via this link, you can register for a version of the offer which gives airline miles in any of the participating airlines which work with Marriott Rewards.  This includes Avios.

You will need to set your Mariott Rewards account to earning miles instead of points to be able to register.

You earn 2,500 airline miles for every two stays.  If you value an airline mile at 1p, this offer is no worse than taking Marriott Rewards points, and a whole lot more useful if you doubt you will ever earn enough Marriott points for a decent redemption.

    Crikey, not a single comment.

Looks like Marriott doesnt have much to interest the HfP readership.

I took their credit card and claimed the 2000 avios but part from that never see anything compelling in their hotel offers.

    Am I missing something?

    • Will says:

Overpriced and very difficult to get any meaningful status with in my opinion. Not sure if they make more sense in the USA.

Stayed at he Waikiki Marriott this year, not impressed at all with either the quality of the hotel it service, £150 a night room only and they wanted to charge me to print 2 sheets of A4 from an email.

      • Dave B says:

Redemptions for 7 days to their resorts can be good including enough airline miles for the travel can be a very good use of points

    • Rob says:

It has always been like this. Marriott inspires no enthusiasm in people. Page views of my Marriott articles confirm this. Yet it is the biggest global chain I think.

      • Alan says:

The stats I’ve seen seemed to have IHG at #1, then Hilton then Marriott – not a vast amount between them but seem to have been a consistent #3. Regionally in Europe though I think they must be way down the list.
