easyJet Plus – get £22-£37 off via Amex and now bring TWO bags into the cabin

easyJet Plus is the nearest thing that easyJet has to a loyalty scheme – ie not very near at all.
The scheme has been around for a while and offers a number of benefits:
Free seat selection – this is a genuine cash saving given the usual fees of up to £15.99 per flight. This ONLY applies to the member and NOT to other people travelling on the same booking.
Speedy boarding – a cash saving, although less important if you have a seat selected
Fast track security – whilst not a stated benefit this appears to work at certain airports based on previous feedback from HfP readers
Access to ‘fast bag drop’ desks
Able to bring a larger bag into the cabin – you are allowed to bring on a 56cm x 45cm x 25cm item. Other passengers, on busy flights, will be asked to check in bags which exceed 50cm x 40cm x 20cm.
From March 19th, easyJet Plus members (as well as anyone travelling on a FLEXI fare or who has paid for an exit row or upfront seat) will be able to take two bags into the cabin.
I imagine that this is especially beneficial for female travellers, who previously had their handbag counted as their ‘piece of cabin baggage’ and were forced to check in any other item.
Full details can be found on the easyJet website press pages here.
The fee to join easyJet Plus is £149 per year. This can easily be recouped from the saving on seat selection fees.
American Express is currently running a special offer on easyJet Plus membership.
You can save 15% if you enter the code EASYAMEX whilst signing up. The price will drop to £126.65. This deal is valid until February 28th. In theory you need to pay with an American Express card but this does not seem to be enforced.
Looking at the comments below, some people have a more generous offer sitting in their American Express online account – especially Platinum charge card holders. Have a look online before applying to see if you have been targeted for something more generous than the mainstream deal.
Full details and the sign-up form can be found on their website here. The small print of the Amex discount can be found on the cardmemberoffers website (search for easyJet).
