Bits: Hilton HHonors Diamond bonus, new currency converter website

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

News in brief:

Did you get your Hilton Diamond appreciation bonus?

If you have Diamond status in the Hilton HHonors programme, you may have received a special award from Hilton.  Many members have been given 100,000 points – enough for a night at any Hilton property, even after the horrific 2013 devaluation – as a gift.

Some people did not receive the email from Hilton, potentially because they have opted out.  As you will only receive the bonus if you agree to accept it, anyone who is Hilton Diamond and who has not heard from Hilton should go to this website and enter their account details.

You may be surprised at what you are given.  It even seems to work for people who were given free Hilton Diamond status as a British Airways Gold Guest List benefit.

Hilton Diamond 350

Interesting currency converter website

Reader Lee got in touch to show me his currency conversion website, www.currencyconverter.co.uk.

As well as providing the standard conversion features, the site also has weekly news updates on the foreign exchange markets as well as – handily – fact sheets for almost every currency giving an overview of what to expect when you travel. Bet you don’t know what notes the Angolan Kwanza comes in! It is worth bookmarking.

“Based on the account number you entered, you are not eligible for an exclusive offer at this time.”
Doesn’t work for everyone who is Diamond it seems

    • Stephan Whelan says:

Same for me. Been a diamond for almost 8 years now and gold most of the last 15. Obviously don’t need to be appreciated 😉

      • Think Square says:

You may be correct (I have upcoming stays and no bonus) – except how does giving you bonus points encourage more paid stays?

    • Rob says:

It is odd. I know BA Gold Guest List Diamond freeloaders who got 100k.

      • Alan says:

Although if they don’t have any stays booked this could fit with what I’m seeing – almost like they’re trying to encourage more stays from those with not much booked.

  • Save East Coast Rewards says:

There’s another Herald article just been published (about an hour ago): http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/transport/loyal-passengers-need-to-spend-ten-times-to-earn-a-free-ticket-under-new-east-coast-p.119279971

This one doesn’t quote Raffles but was released as a response to East Coast publishing their Nectar redemption rates officially.

If you look on the Save East Coast Rewards site (click on my name for a link, if I post too many in the article it’s flagged for spam) I have linked to examples of the spend you’d need to make to redeem a ticket.

The Herald has been very supportive of this campaign since they were made aware of it. There’s also another reporter who’s tried to get a story printed but is being denied by his editor who also supports the campaign and has given me tips.

Head for Points was an early supporter and helped raise awareness and build up the number of supporters to a level where people took notice.

  • Ross says:

Tried to get my 100,000 HH points. Apparently I’m not eligible for any special offers at this time. Oh well ……

  • David says:

    My reward is:

“Each stay through April 30, 2015, will count double toward the number of stays needed to achieve your 2016 tier status.”

  • Tim_t says:

Diamond for many many years (and a member of the original hilton club in the UK before that) – nowt.

  • Martin says:

“Bet you don’t know what notes the Angolan Kwanza comes in”!?

Your readership is more widely distributed than you think. I’m sat in Luanda (Angola) reading this over breakfast. HFP is a popular site for oil workers who rotate into West Africa.

  • Alan says:

Got the 100k (yay!) but no double-stay credit, which would have been quite handy.

  • Francis says:

I’m a diamond member and received the following:

    REGISTRATION ERROR

Based on the account number you entered, you are not eligible for an exclusive offer at this time.

    • James Garnon says:

I also get the same message. Seems a little unfair as two of my colleagues who have been staying in the Hilton for the same amount of time as me have both been given 100k bonuses.
