If you transferred some American Express Membership Rewards points to Etihad Guest during the recent 25% transfer bonus, you got lucky!

Etihad has just announced a 25%-off sale on redemptions.  There is one snag – London Heathrow is not included as a departure point.

Manchester is included, however.  Dublin is also on the list.

Etihad 350

Even if you are required to start your trip in London, you might find that you get a discount on any onward flight from Abu Dhabi to your final destination.

Manchester to Abu Dhabi in Business Class is now just circa 68,000 miles – which would have been just 54,000 Amex points if you had converted them during the transfer bonus.  Remember that you only need 75% of the miles required to book – you can buy the rest for 0.6p per miles using ‘cash and miles’ (the option comes up on the payment page).

The list of routes and the special code you need to make the discount show up can be found on this page.

You must book by March 20th for travel up to December 31st.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Miles and cash looks like its against the full miles not discounted miles so cant use cash.

    Cheers

If I book MED-AUH without the discount and book AUH-MAN with the discount, will they count it as one ticket and cover me for missed connections as the transit window is only 1.35 hours which could be a problem if the first flight is delayed.

    • Rob says:

Legally you are reliant on EY. In practice you will be fine, they are not going to make you buy a new ticket to cover their own original delay.

In my experience over the years, airlines just want you out of the way and have no interest in your cash.

Just for everyone info family accounts look like they take 24 hours to set up and in the mean time all miles disappear!!
