Discounts on redemptions to Spain via avios.com

Links on Head for Points may support the site by paying a commission.  See here for all partner links.

avios.com has launched a small low-key sale on selected routes to Spain operated by Iberia.

Full details can be found on avios.com here.  In summary:

Edinburgh to Madrid reduced from 15,000 Avios to 11,250 + £41

London Gatwick to Madrid reduced from 15,000 Avios to 11,250 + £40

Iberia A330 350

London Heathrow to Mallorca reduced from 15,000 Avios to 11,250 + £51

London Heathrow to Gran Canaria reduced from 20,000 Avios to 15,000 + £51

London Heathrow to Tenerife reduced from 20,000 Avios to 15,000 + £50

All of these routes are operated by Iberia Express.  This means that they do NOT qualify for Reward Flight Saver, hence the varying tax amounts above.

Only economy flights are discounted.

You must book by March 30th for travel between March 29th and July 15th.

It appears that you must ring Avios to book tickets at these prices.  I tried various online combinations yesterday but was continually charged the full price.  I assume that they will not charge any offline booking fee.

Meanwhile, over at Iberia Plus ….

Iberia Plus is running its own offer.  You can save 25% on the cost of booking an Iberia redemption between Madrid and London.

The dates are different from the avios.com deal.  You need to book and fly by the end of April.  This deal allows you to fly in and out of Heathrow, unlike the avios.com deal.

Business Class is included with this offer.  Remember that Iberia runs a long-haul A330 or A340 on one flight a day to and from Heathrow with fully flat beds in Business.

Remember that you cannot transfer Avios in or out of Iberia Plus unless the Iberia account is 90 days old and has earned at least 1 Avios.

You can also earn double Avios on Iberia flights bought and flown before the end of April from London or Edinburgh to Madrid.  You need to register via the banner which will show on iberia.com when you log in.

  • Jamie says:

Are these discounts on return bookings only? Or do they also show for one-way flights. I am flying to Madrid and then onward.

    • Rob says:

The Iberia Plus-booked discount definitely works on one-ways because I priced one yesterday. I am pretty sure the avios.com offer will work on a one way too if you ring.

  • AndyGWP says:

Hey Raffles….I suspect the answer is no, but i’m struggling so worth asking.

Trying to get my wife on the same flight as me to Barcelona on a certain date in May (£150 one-way)

No redemption availability on Avios, BAEC, Iberia website, or on AA’s website.

Any other options? I have lots (well, 70k so probably small fry on this website) of Amex Membership Points I could use

    Thanks in advance 🙂

    • Rob says:

Why not fly to Madrid and get an Iberia connection to Barcelona? ba.com might not pick it up but if you search for each leg separately in may come up. Remember the Gatwick service to Madrid as well, search with LON and not LHR.

      • AndyGWP says:

cheers for the suggestion… unfortunately wifey doesn’t really want to do this on her own so looks like she may have to skip this trip if she can’t do the same plane as me 🙂 ah well, get a double bed to myself I suppose 😀

  • AndyGWP says:

Side note – I keep having the following message when I try to post… it can take up to three attempts (used different computers over the past few days and it still keeps happening)… is it just me??

“ERROR: Your comment could not be saved. Please try again later.”

    • AndyGWP says:

sods law that that post took just one attempt, but the first comment of mine was at least three attempts and it happened on other posts yesterday too :/

    • Rob says:

It may be linked to a new bit of anti-spam software I put in. I will see if I can relax it. You are not the only person to have mentioned this.
