News in brief:

Interesting Crowne Plaza money-back guarantee

One of our readers sent me information on Crowne Plaza’s ‘Sleep Advantage‘ guarantee.  These applies to all hotels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

The key benefit is this – if you book a wake-up call and it does not happen on time, your night is free.

Our reader has successfully claimed on this guarantee twice at the same UK hotel.  On both occasions it was agreed without any excessive fuss.

If you are staying at a Crowne Plaza, book a wake-up call!  Make sure that the person you discuss it with takes down your details correctly so they cannot claim it was an honest mistake.

Full details of ‘Sleep Advantage’ can be found here.

Etihad 350

Etihad 96-hour business and economy sale

Etihad has launched a 4-day sale across both business and economy.  You can book for travel all the way out until the end of February 2016.

Remember that Etihad flies from London and Manchester with Edinburgh being added soon.

The website does not seem to have an accurate list of the fares – they are listing higher fares than you can actually find.  The following were in the email they sent out and do seem accurate:

  • Mumbai – £381 economy, £1359 business
  • Abu Dhabi – £360 economy, £1999 business
  • Colombo – £465 economy, £1738 business
  • Bangkok – £421 economy, £1726 business
  • Ho Chi Minh – £433 economy, £1676 business
  • Kuala Lumpur – £465 economy, £1774 business

Remember that these are only examples and that many other destinations are available.  My review of the Business Class Studio on the new Etihad A380 is here.

You will also earn triple Etihad Guest miles on all business class seats and double miles on all economy seats booked via this sale, as long as you register.

The sale website – which also has the registration page for double and triple miles – is here.  You must book by April 16th.

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards

How to earn Etihad Guest miles from UK credit cards (April 2024)

Etihad Guest does not have a UK credit card.  However, you can earn Etihad Guest miles by converting Membership Rewards points earned from selected UK American Express cards.

Cards earning Membership Rewards points include:

Membership Rewards points convert at 1:1 into Etihad Guest miles which is an attractive rate.  The cards above all earn 1 Membership Rewards point per £1 spent on your card, which converts to 1 Etihad Guest mile. The Gold card earns double points (2 per £1) on all flights you charge to it.

Yes, the JerseyTravel advert did catch my eye, with something like “flights from Gatwick AND London City”. They’ve obviously been to the BA School of Customer Alienation.

  • Rupert says:

Nice picture of Jersey – I proposed to my wife in that bay 😉 That was in the days of BMI from LHR…

  • Irons1980 says:

Nice picture of the CP Marlow – I got married to my wife in that hotel 😉

    • Irons1980 says:

In case anyone is wondering what I am on about, the picture of CP Marlow is not on this page, but on the link to the article on the main headlines page…

      • Rob says:

I did a big article on CP Marlow a couple of years ago, if you search, which is why the picture was in the library!

  • James67 says:

Qatar have just launched another sale too. This week only for bookings through December.

    • Rob says:

Covering this tomorrow – looks like some crazy EU prices are available again!

      • Ricardo says:

There’s also an Emirates offer at the moment for 15% off paying with Mastercard using code GEMCARD

      • James67 says:

Thanks, will have a lool. I’m looking for a decent revenue fare to cancel and free up avios for a mid April 16 redemption for my partner before devaluation.

  • Danksy says:

@irons @rupert and they say that romance is dead!

Just for the record I proposed to my fiancée after a short stay in Dublin paid for by avios and hhonors; going on honeymoon courtesy of BA club world sale prices and staying in various SPG hotels with 4 days in the HI …all for no cash 😀

  • Geoggy says:

I got a 50% refund on my last CP stay as my “executive” room faced Rock City in Nottingham (which must have a great sound system).

Maybe I should have pushed for more?

    • Fenny says:

Maybe I should have complained about the couple in the next room at the CP in Leeds. They came back after 1am and had a *serious* row. (Or perhaps they were just replaying a scene from Eastenders!) At one point, I nearly called reception, as I was concerned for her safety, but they managed to calm down.

    • Andrew (@andrewseftel) says:

It does have a good sound system!

  • James67 says:

Big thumbs down for Etihad business saver fare. Be aware, these tickets are totally nonrefundable. Fee to change them is £285 plus any difference in ticket price. They are of no interest to me with those conditions, I expect something better on J tickets. Cannot recall specific details but I am sure Qatar was much less expensive to changes, and refundable for a fee.

  • Felix Flyer says:

And you get duty free as Jersey is not part of the EU
