Global Hotel Alliance drops Avios as a partner – 31 fewer hotel chains to earn at

On 31st March, Global Hotel Alliance dropped all of its airline partnerships except for Lufthansa Miles & More.

As I wrote in this article last month, Global Hotel Alliance is currently focussed on rolling out its own loyalty scheme, GHA Discovery.  As part of this, they appear to want to persuade more people to join by removing the alternative option of taking a handful of airline miles instead.

The Avios earning rate used to be 500 points per stay, although occasional promotions lifted that to 1,000 Avios.

Kempinski is the biggest name on the list of GHA members who you might be using.  We also profiled the Corinthia Hotel in London recently.  Readers in Ireland may also be regular users of The Doyle Collection properties.

You can read more about this decision on the GHA website here.

  • Phillip says:

This doesn’t mean that individual hotels in the chain don’t still offer Avios or airmiles in general. Not in all cases, but it’s always worth checking.

    • Rob says:

In theory that is true, but I was struggling to think of one!

      • Phillip says:

What’s also interesting, is that individual chains have selectively removed particular programmes. For example, Pan Pacific, have removed 10 odd airline partners including BA, but kept 9 others including QF and SQ.
